Operating from our modern manufacturing facility in Carlisle, we combine traditional craftsmanship with the latest manufacturing technology to produce everything from vehicle graphics and illuminated signage to large-scale architectural signage and bespoke fabrication.
As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead our production team, drive operational excellence and ensure every project is delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of our production facility. You will oversee workflow from job release through manufacture and installation readiness, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to Grafix’s exacting quality standards.
Working closely with our sales, design and installation teams, you’ll be responsible for planning production capacity, leading and developing the production team, improving processes and maintaining a safe, organised and efficient manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management
- Plan and schedule all manufacturing activities to meet customer deadlines.
- Allocate labour and resources effectively across departments.
- Monitor production progress and proactively resolve bottlenecks.
- Ensure projects move efficiently from design through manufacture to installation.
- Manage production priorities while maintaining flexibility for urgent work.
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate and develop a multi-skilled production team.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and training.
- Foster a positive, accountable and collaborative working culture.
- Support recruitment, onboarding and staff development.
- Promote continuous improvement across all departments.
Quality & Standards
- Ensure all products meet Grafix’s quality expectations before leaving the workshop.
- Develop and maintain quality control procedures.
- Minimise rework and production waste.
- Encourage a “right first time” manufacturing culture.
Operational Efficiency
- Improve manufacturing processes and workshop layout.
- Monitor productivity and identify opportunities for increased efficiency.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles where appropriate.
- Work with management to invest in new equipment and production methods.
Health & Safety
- Maintain a safe working environment across all workshop areas.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation.
- Carry out risk assessments and toolbox talks where required.
- Ensure equipment is maintained and operated safely.
Stock & Purchasing
- Monitor stock levels and material availability.
- Work with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Reduce waste and optimise material usage.
- Assist in supplier selection and purchasing decisions.
Project Coordination
- Liaise with Sales, Design and Installation teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Attend production meetings and provide accurate updates.
- Identify project risks early and implement practical solutions.
About You
You are an experienced production leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You combine strong organisational skills with practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and have the ability to motivate people while maintaining high standards.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Production Manager or Senior Production Supervisor.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering or bespoke production.
- Excellent planning and organisational ability.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Experience with production scheduling and workflow management.
- Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
- Good IT skills including Microsoft Office.

Pay: £35,000.00-£47,000.00 per year
