The Rewind/Finishing Operator is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient finishing of printed materials, ensuring all products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards. This role plays a key part in maintaining production flow, delivering high‑quality output, and supporting the wider press and finishing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate rewind/finishing equipment to slit, inspect, count, and prepare printed reels or sheets to required specifications.
- Set up machines including core sizes, tension settings, blade positions, label applicators, and counting systems.
- Inspect material quality throughout the run, identifying defects such as print issues, registration errors, contamination, or slitting inconsistencies.
- Record production data accurately, including job numbers, waste, output quantities, downtime, and quality checks.
- Ensure correct labelling and packaging of finished goods for dispatch or further processing.
- Perform routine machine maintenance such as cleaning, blade changes, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting.
- Follow job tickets and specifications precisely, ensuring all customer requirements are met.
- Work closely with press operators and supervisors to maintain workflow and resolve issues quickly.
- Maintain a clean, safe working environment, adhering to company health & safety procedures at all times.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance quality.
Skills & Experience
- Experience operating rewind, slitting, or finishing equipment in a print or packaging environment (preferred but not essential).
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to spot defects and maintain high quality standards.
- Good mechanical aptitude and confidence with machine adjustments.
- Ability to read and follow job specifications, production paperwork, and quality standards.
- Comfortable working to targets, deadlines, and productivity expectations.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Basic IT or data‑entry skills for recording production information.
