Due to continued growth, Sumac Precision Engineering is seeking Planning & Estimating
Engineers to join our team at our Weymouth facility.
In this key role, you will support customer requirements by analysing technical specifications,
developing accurate costings, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality engineered
solutions. You will work closely with our Production, Sales, and Engineering teams to provide
efficient planning and estimating that aligns with our operational capabilities and customer
expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse customer drawings and specifications to develop accurate estimates
- Prepare quotations and lead times based on internal capabilities and materials
- Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and Production teams to support customer
proposals
- Interpret and understand technical drawings, GD&T, and machining symbols
- Maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers
- Support continuous improvement and cost-efficiency in quoting and planning processes

Essential:
- Strong knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes (manual & CNC)
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence working with PCs and business systems
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Collaborative mindset and professional integrity
Desirable:
- Proven experience in estimating and/or planning within a precision engineering environment
- Understanding of material and process cost drivers
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
- Exposure to fabrication, welding, or special processes such as plating or coating
Training may be considered for the right candidate with a strong engineering background and
the right attitude.
Minimum of 39 hours per week
Core working hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Thursday and 8 am to 1 pm Friday
