About the Apprenticeship
PH ActiveEd is an award‑winning provider of primary PE, school sport and wraparound childcare across the South-West. As we continue to grow across Blandford, Sherborne and the surrounding areas, we are looking for enthusiastic, committed individuals to join our team as Sports Apprentices, working towards a nationally recognised qualification while gaining hands‑on experience in primary schools.
Throughout the programme, you’ll develop alongside our experienced PE Educators, learning how to plan, teach and evaluate high‑quality PE lessons and deliver meaningful sport and activity experiences for young people.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a Sports Apprentice, you will:
- Support the planning, delivery and evaluation of engaging PE lessons
- Learn from experienced educators and develop your own delivery style
- Gradually take on more independent teaching responsibilities (particularly in Year 2)
- Assist with pupil assessments and impact reporting
- Deliver extra-curricular sessions (lunchtime and after-school clubs)
- Deliver before school wraparound care and occasionally support with after school sessions
- Build positive working relationships with pupils, teachers and parents
- Stay on top of all academic assignments, online learning and assessments
- Balance practical delivery with study commitments throughout the apprenticeship
- During the school holiday you will also be required to deliver on our multi-activity school holiday camps (PH Camps)
About the Qualification
You will work toward the Sports Apprenticeship Standard, which includes learning and development across:
- Teaching high-quality primary PE
- Behaviour and class management
- Inclusion and adapting delivery
- Physical literacy and movement skill development
- Safeguarding and child development
- Communication, leadership and teamwork
- Mental wellbeing and whole-child approaches
- Planning, delivery and reflective practice
You will complete a structured 20‑month programme including online learning, tutor sessions, workplace observation and an End‑Point Assessment.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Full, clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths
- Experience working with children (schools, clubs, camps, volunteering etc.)
- A Level 1 NGB coaching qualification OR a BTEC in Sport
- Ability to obtain an Enhanced DBS check
Desirable
- Understanding of behaviour management and lesson organisation
- Knowledge of the primary PE National Curriculum
- Experience teaching or supporting delivery of physical activity sessions
- IT skills for completing coursework and reports
