Job Purpose:
To support the charitable aims of the organisation by ensuring Bullion Hall Community Centre is safe, secure, clean, compliant, and welcoming for all users. The Caretaker will play a key role in protecting the wellbeing of vulnerable people, maintaining the building to required standards, and delivering a high level of customer service to community groups, volunteers, and service users.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Building Compliance:
- Promote and maintain a safe environment in line with Health & Safety legislation
- Carry out routine building, fire safety, and health & safety checks
- Ensure fire exits, evacuation routes, and safety equipment remain clear and operational
- Identify hazards and report concerns promptly to management
- Support compliance with charity policies, risk assessments, and procedures
- Maintain basic records and checklists as required
Safeguarding:
- Adhere fully to the charity’s Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct
- Be vigilant to safeguarding concerns involving children, young people, or vulnerable adults
- Report safeguarding concerns promptly and appropriately
- Support a culture of safety, dignity, and respect within the centre
Building Security and Operations:
- Open and close the building according to booking schedules
- Ensure the premises are secure, including doors, windows, shutters and alarm systems
- Monitor the condition of the building and surrounding areas
- Oversee contractors on site when required and report issues
Cleaning, Housekeeping & Maintenance:
- Carry out daily cleaning of hall, meeting rooms, offices, kitchen, toilets, and communal spaces
- Ensure high standards of cleanliness between different user groups
- Manage waste and recycling appropriately
- Undertake low level maintenance and basic repairs
- Identify maintenance needs and report faults promptly
Room Set Ups and Turnarounds:
- Prepare rooms for activities, meetings, and events in line with booking requirements
- Safely move and arrange furniture and equipment between customer bookings
- Clear, reset, and clean rooms between different user groups
- Ensure rooms are correctly laid out, clean, and ready on time
Customer Service & Community Support:
- Act as a welcoming and helpful presence for all centre users
- Assist customers, volunteers, and hirers with basic queries and support
- Administrate emergency first aid for other staff, volunteers and customers
- Manage the customer payments for the individual group room rentals
- Promote the values and positive reputation of the charity
- Support community events and activities as required
Additional Information:
- A DBS check will be required
- Training in safeguarding, emergency first aid, health & safety, and fire safety will be provided and is an essential requirement of the post.
- The role requires physical activity, including lifting and moving furniture
Pay: £13.00 per hour
