Café Manager – Bait Cabin Café

Honister Slate Mine | Full Time

Perched at the top of Honister Pass in the heart of the Lake District, Honister Slate Mine is one of Cumbria's most unique visitor attractions. Every year we welcome thousands of visitors who come to experience our history, adventure activities, breathtaking scenery and warm Cumbrian hospitality.

We're looking for an enthusiastic and hands-on Café Manager to lead our Bait Cabin Café team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys leading by example, motivating a team and ensuring every customer leaves with a smile.

About the Role

As Café Manager, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Bait Cabin Café, leading and supporting our Café Assistants to deliver excellent food, drinks and customer service.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll be involved in everything from making coffees, homemade cakes, fresh pizza, serving customers to managing rotas, maintaining food safety standards, monitoring stock and helping the team perform at their very best.

Working closely with the Food & Beverage Manager and wider Honister team, you'll play an important part in delivering the outstanding visitor experience that Honister is known for.

What You'll Be Doing

Leading the Team. Managing, motivating and supporting the Café Assistant team.
Leading by example and maintaining a positive working environment.
Training, coaching and developing team members.
Managing daily staffing levels and rotas.
Supporting recruitment and induction of new team members.
Monitoring team performance and maintaining high standards.

Delivering an Outstanding Customer Experience

Ensuring every customer receives a warm, friendly and professional welcome.
Maintaining excellent customer service standards throughout the café.
Handling customer feedback and resolving issues positively.
Encouraging the team to create memorable experiences for every visitor.

Café Operations

Overseeing the smooth day-to-day running of the café.
Supporting food and drink preparation when required.
Ensuring high standards of presentation throughout the café.
Managing stock levels and placing orders.
Monitoring wastage and helping control costs.
Supporting opening and closing procedures.

Food Safety & Compliance

Ensuring full compliance with Food Hygiene, HACCP and Health & Safety procedures.
Monitoring fridge and freezer temperatures and food safety records.
Ensuring allergen procedures are followed correctly.
Maintaining excellent cleanliness standards throughout the café and kitchen.
Reporting maintenance or equipment issues promptly.

Supporting the Business

Working closely with the Food & Beverage Manager and wider management team.
Supporting busy trading periods and site events.
Promoting teamwork across departments.
Looking for opportunities to improve efficiency, customer satisfaction and sales.
