Position: Senior Payroll Officer
Location: Clifton Place, 9 Fairham Brook Drive, NOTTINGHAM, NG11 8PY
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 13+ Months
Working Hours: 35 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £18.56 per hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain payroll and pension systems, records and related processes in line with current legislation and agreed deadlines
- Process colleague expenses, statutory payments, absence records and other payroll-related transactions accurately
- Manage payroll control accounts, including net pay and pension reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Maintain accurate payroll records and complete regular reconciliations, resolving discrepancies where required
- Extract, analyse and report payroll and financial data using relevant systems and applications
- Support payroll period-end and year-end processes, preparing required documentation and reports
- Assist with the development and improvement of payroll systems, processes and procedures
- Respond to complex payroll queries professionally, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection requirements
- Support the preparation of statutory and financial reports and assist auditors when required
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify issues and recommend appropriate solutions
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and service users
- Provide cover across the wider directorate when required
Person Specification:
Must-Have Requirements:
- Diploma in Payroll (NVQ Level 4) or equivalent payroll qualification with relevant payroll experience
- Significant experience working with computerised payroll systems
- Strong knowledge of statutory payments, PAYE and payroll legislation
- Experience handling complex payroll queries through written and verbal communication
- Strong numerical skills and good written communication ability
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and related applications to extract, analyse and manipulate data
- Ability to maintain accurate records and complete reconciliations within deadlines
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Commitment to confidentiality and compliance with data protection requirements
Nice-to-Have Requirements:
- Previous experience using the iTrent payroll system
- Experience with additional payroll systems
- Experience supporting payroll system improvements or business transformation projects
- Understanding of working with people from diverse social, cultural and racial backgrounds
