Salary: From £45,600 per annum. Dependent on relevant Postdoctoral experience. Future progression is based on annual performance review.

Duration of Contract: Fixed Term for 1 year

Hours per week: 35 hours per week (Full Time)

Location: Chelsea

Job Details

Under the guidance of Professor Jonathon Pines, we are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Training Fellow to contribute to to investigate how cyclin B1-Cdk1 binding is regulated to form the trigger for mitosis. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary research group studying cell-cycle regulation using a combination of molecular, cellular, biochemical, advanced cell imaging and proteomic approaches. The role will contribute to advancing our understanding of the fundamental processes that govern cell cycle mechanics and provide important implications for tissue morphogenesis and cancer biology.

About you

The successful candidate must have:

PhD in biology or other similar subject*
Demonstrable skills in molecular biology techniques (recombinant DNA, cloning)
Expertise in protein biochemistry, microscopy, flow cytometry, or live-cell imaging.
Experience with gene editing, RNA interference, or protein interaction studies.

Candidates who are nearing completion of their PhD may apply, but confirmation on awarded PhD is required within 6 months of employment.

The ICR has a workforce agreement stating that Postdoctoral Training Fellows can only be employed for up to 7 years as PDTF at the ICR, providing total postdoctoral experience (including previous employment at this level elsewhere) does not exceed 7 years.

Cell Division Group, Division of Cell and Molecular Biology (Chelsea)

Professor Jonathon Pines’ group is investigating how cells regulate cell division and divide genetic information evenly between cells when they separate. The group's research focuses on how cells trigger mitosis, and once mitosis has begun, how cells ensure that the two daughter cells receive an equal and identical set of chromosomes. They have developed a number of powerful live-cell assays, and combine these with gene-targeting and biochemistry to investigate the mechanisms controlling a process as highly dynamic as mitosis.
