Domestic Science Home Ltd
Brimscombe, near Stroud, Gloucestershire
£14–£16 per hour, depending on experience
15–20 hours per week, normally across 3–4 days
Permanent, part-time | Hybrid working
Job overview
Domestic Science is an independent homeware, lifestyle and clothing retailer with shops in Nailsworth, Tetbury and Stow-on-the-Wold, alongside a growing ecommerce business.
We are looking for a highly organised and detail-focused Buying & Product Coordinator to support our buying team.
This is a varied role involving purchase-order administration, supplier communication, product information, pricing and delivery coordination. You will help make sure orders and product records are accurate, missing information is followed up and relevant updates are communicated clearly to our shops, ecommerce and warehouse teams.
The role would suit someone with experience in buying administration, ecommerce, product administration, retail operations or another detail-focused coordination role. It may also suit someone returning to work who is looking for a responsible and flexible part-time position.
Responsibilities
- Monitor purchase orders and maintain accurate records of quantities, costs, delivery dates, payment dates and order status.
- Communicate with suppliers to confirm order details, prices, delivery schedules and product information.
- Break larger orders into agreed delivery drops and communicate these arrangements to suppliers.
- Chase missing product information, including barcodes, commodity codes, materials, dimensions and country of origin.
- Request and track product samples.
- Monitor changes to supplier cost prices and help identify their effect on retail prices and margins.
- Check retail prices and product records for errors and coordinate any necessary corrections.
- Maintain accurate product categories, tags and range statuses, including seasonal, stopping, evergreen and core products.
- Keep shops, ecommerce and warehouse teams informed about incoming stock, delivery dates, price changes and discontinued ranges.
- Liaise with the ecommerce team regarding expected product delivery dates and launch information.
- Prepare and distribute accurate price sheets ahead of sales and promotional periods.
- Coordinate sale pricing information and signage with the relevant teams.
- Help maintain buying and product records so they can be used effectively for budgeting, reporting and range planning.
- Support product research, range reviews, supplier administration and trade-show preparation.
- Help monitor stock levels, product performance and sell-through.
About you
You will be someone who enjoys bringing organisation and accuracy to a busy working environment. You should be comfortable taking responsibility for detailed information and following tasks through to completion.
You should have:
- Experience in buying administration, e-commerce, product administration, retail operations or a similar coordination role.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Confidence in using spreadsheets and learning new software systems.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and confidence working with costs, retail prices and basic margin information.
- The ability to identify missing information, errors and delays.
- The ability to manage several priorities while maintaining accurate records.
- Confidence in communicating with suppliers and colleagues across different teams.
Experience in homeware, clothing, fashion or lifestyle retail would be beneficial but is not essential.
Experience with Lightspeed Retail, Shopify or another retail, purchasing or product-management system would also be helpful, although training can be provided.
We welcome applications from candidates whose relevant experience may have been gained under a different job title.
Hours and working arrangements
This is a permanent, part-time role of approximately 15–20 hours per week, normally spread across 3–4 working days to provide regular support throughout the week.
There is some flexibility over the precise working pattern.
The role will combine time at our Brimscombe office and warehouse with some home working. It is not a fully remote position.
During our main buying seasons, typically February and September, some additional flexibility may be required. There may also be opportunities to attend trade shows in the UK or overseas.
