A site-based role with emphasis on driving environmental awareness and ensuring compliance with the monitoring requirements of the site Environmental Permit and Environmental Management Systems.
Please note, this is a role at our Penrith site.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- On-site and off-site checks, monitoring, and reporting as required by the Environmental Permit and the Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Ensuring site adherence with all environmental procedures, regulatory standards, and impact management controls.
- Reporting and advising the site team on environmental risks, issues, and impacts.
- Investigation, root cause analysis and effective reporting of complaints, incidents, and near-misses.
- Supporting the environmental training process across site colleagues.
- Production of accurate and timely data analysis, written / verbal communications, and reports.
- Preparation of information for meetings, site visits and management reviews.
- Maintenance of records and documentation in a clear, compliant, and systematic way.
Person Specification:
- Previous experience of environmental systems beneficial but not essential (full training provided).
- Ability to accurately analyse datasets and information to ensure correct conclusions.
- Understanding of the principles of root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Clear understanding of site KPI’s and how to contribute to achieving targets and objectives.
- Proficient with Excel, Word and Power Point, and other software systems.
- Full driving licence essential.
- Strong written and verbal communications, able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
- Practical hands-on approach to physical tasks and activities is essential.
- Able to methodically approach trend analysis, root cause analysis and problem solving, collaboratively creating effective solutions.
- Able to engage, educate and influence in a diplomatic and respectful manner.
- Strong organisational skills, able to effectively deliver numerous activities and deadlines concurrently.
- Able to show initiative and to work under pressure, and support others to do the same.
- Able to complete and maintain documentation in a clear and systematic way.
- Have a passion for the environment and for inspiring a similar passion in others.
- Have a degree of flexibility in working hours as and when required.
Measures of Success:
- Compliance with all components of the site Environmental Management Systems.
- Permit / legal compliance, no breaches of permit / legislation.
- Audit passes, with minimal or no non-compliances.
- Site KPI’s, objectives and targets.
- Personal KPI’s. objectives and targets
Key Relationships:
- Site teams, inclusive of Operations, Health & Safety, Quality, Engineering and Administration.
- Site Management team.
- Group Environmental / Technical team.
- Utility & Service providers, inclusive of Yorkshire Water, Northern Powergrid and external contractors.
- External auditors and regulatory bodies.
- Local communities and businesses.

Working hours:
40 hrs per week -Monday to Friday from 8.30am until 5pm (30mins unpaid break daily).
