Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
Job Introduction
We’re recruiting a Junior Lawyer to join our Legal Services team at Milton Keynes City Council on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a rewarding role for someone looking to build their legal career while doing work that really matters to our city and communities.
You’ll play an important part in supporting adult safeguarding work across the council, helping to protect vulnerable people and ensure decisions are made in the best interests of residents. With support from experienced colleagues, you’ll manage your own caseload and contribute to high-quality legal advice that supports services to run effectively.

Adult Social Care plays a vital role in supporting some of our most vulnerable residents, and the work you’ll do will help ensure people are protected, supported and able to live with dignity and independence.
This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home‑based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site.

Role Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of legal matters under the supervision of a qualified lawyer

Ensure processes are followed effectively when managing casework

Provide clear legal advice and guidance to the relevant client departments

Build positive working relationships with clients across the council

Support the delivery of legal services to departments across Milton Keynes City Council

Take on additional work as directed by senior colleagues, developing your skills and experience
Ideal Candidate
- A degree or relevant experience in a legal setting
-
Be progressing towards a recognised legal qualification, such as Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) or equivalent

Experience of managing a caseload in relation to safeguarding adults within a local authority or private practice

Strong written and verbal communication skills

The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally

The ability to work under pressure and manage competing demand
