Mini VIP’s Nursery & Daycare is a family‑run, friendly and thriving setting in Winchcombe. We provide high‑quality childcare for children aged 3 months to 12 years, operating all year round from 7:30am–6:00pm, closed only on Bank Holidays and over the Christmas period.

We have recently expanded, with:

Job Description:

Nursery Room Lead

Purpose of Post:

Ensure all children are safeguarded and their welfare and safety is promoted
Ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children in their care
Give support to the other team members within their immediate room and within the wider nursery
Work as part of a team to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, learn and develop

Responsible to: Nursery Manager

JOB SPECIFICATION

Main Duties:

Follow the nursery safeguarding procedure to ensure all children are kept safe, well and secure, and ensure all team members are able to do the same
Support team members to have the specific knowledge and skills required to work effectively with children of this age
Formulate and operate a programme of activities that meet the individual needs and interests of children in your area in conjunction with other team members and the Manager
Keep records of your key children’s development and learning journeys, share these with parents, carers and other key adults, and conduct reviews with parents alongside the Manager
Support all team members with early identification and intervention for children with possible special/additional needs and give physical, emotional and intellectual guidance as appropriate
Support all team members to complete a Ready for Learning for their key child. Conduct an end-of-nursery transition for each key child to send to or take to school, ensuring the new provision has a clear understanding of each child’s key strengths and areas for development.
Undertake appropriate supervision meetings/processes for all members of your team in line with nursery management expectations
Feed into appraisals, target setting and nursery operations as required by the Manager
Attend nursery management meetings and feed relevant information back to your teams
Support all staff to engage in effective teamwork
Support team members to access any training or support required to fulfil their roles and responsibilities
Support new team members through inductions in partnership with the Manager
Ensure all record keeping is accurate and up-to-date, including learning journeys, accident forms and all documentation relating to the welfare, learning and development of children in your room
Ensure room checks and outdoor checks are completed in line with nursery procedures
Liaise with and support parents and other family members
Liaise with the local authority and other professionals associated with the nursery
Take part in out-of-working-hours activities such as training, monthly staff meetings, parents’ evenings and fundraising events
Undertake domestic tasks within the nursery as required (e.g. preparation of snacks/meals, cleaning equipment)
Participate in training programmes and support students on placement or volunteers
Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure the nursery vision is fulfilled
Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and support team members to do the same
Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and safety appropriate to the needs of young children
Ensure each child is collected by someone known and agreed by the nursery and parent
Ensure confidentiality of all information received by all team members in your area
Ensure that the principles of the curriculum are understood and applied in a way suited to the children’s age, stage of development and the nature of the setting

Specific Childcare Tasks:

Support and facilitate the preparation and completion of activities suited to each individual child's stage of development and interests
Support all staff to develop their roles within the team, especially relating to the key person/worker approach
Ensure mealtimes are positive and social experiences
Wash and change children as required
Ensure a poorly child is cared for appropriately and that parents are notified immediately
Develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents/carers to support day-to-day care and early learning needs
Ensure the provision of a high-quality, inclusive environment that meets the needs of all children regardless of disability, background or medical history
Be aware of the community profile of the nursery and ensure all staff uphold its standards at all times inside and outside work.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education & Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Child Care, Learning and Development or equivalent
Behaviour Management Training
Child Protection Training

Skills & Abilities

· High degree of integrity and empathy when dealing with children

· Good verbal and written communicator

· Able to plan and provide age-appropriate activities

· Able to observe, assess and track children’s learning and development

· Able to support and develop other team members

· Strong organisational skills

· Suitable to work

Experience

· At least 2 years significant childcare experience

· Leading a team and supervising staff

· Supporting children with SEN

Knowledge

· Knowledge of current legislation and guidance (e.g. EYFS)

· Awareness of good practice of an effective early years curriculum

· Key operational policies and procedures e.g. health & safety, child protection, behaviour management and administering of medication

· Children’s developmental stages
