Assistant Curator
Reporting to:
Art Curator and CourtX management team.
Key responsibilities
· Assist the Art Curator with the sourcing and commissioning of artworks;
· Under the guidance of the Art Curator, organise art programmes and tours for various groups including schools;
· Creating art content for website, social media and other communication channels
· Being part of a team responsible for the ongoing daily maintenance and conservation of the artworks;
· Assisting CourtX in tasks peripheral to the Art Trail including helping in Pavilion reception and general administration.
Hours:
0.8-1.0 FTE with the majority of work on site.
Some evening and weekend working will be required.

From £28,000 FTE depending on experience

About CourtX
CourtX is located in the beautiful Canoe Lake Park in Southsea. It was founded in 2013 to safeguard the future of 12 grass tennis courts and a large peripheral area.
Extensive improvements by CourtX have led to the installation of 6 high performance artificial grass courts, a contemporary award-winning Pavilion, the highly rated and popular Café Fresco; in addition to 8 international tournament standard natural grass courts.
The new and soon-to-be opened Art Trail surrounding the grass courts is a hugely ambitious project and has taken over two years to complete. It will showcase numerous artworks and sculptures, sourced locally and globally, within the newly landscaped area offering visitors an engaging and evolving art experience.
CourtX is owned and funded by Patch Foundation CIO, the charitable objectives of which include:
· Promoting community participation in both physical and mental recreational activities.
· Promoting art and the advancement of education in the arts.
· Ensuring the provision of facilities which can be enjoyed by everyone, including those who may not normally be able to access or afford such high-quality offerings.
Purpose of the role
The Assistant Curator will play a key role in supporting the Art Curator in the sourcing and commissioning of new artworks for the art trail, and the maintenance and conservation of artworks and other aspects of the Art Trail. Additionally, the Assistant Curator will work closely with the Art Curator to develop various art programmes, including workshops, guided tours, exhibitions and to promote engagement with both local and national communities, schools and organisations.
The role will also include working on various tasks peripheral to the Art Trail, including general administration and assisting the Pavilion reception team.
Person Specification
A qualification in art or art history or art curation, or equivalent experience.
Experience of sourcing and commissioning artworks is an advantage.
Enthusiasm in sharing subject knowledge to engage visitors of all ages.
The ability to conduct guided tours, talks and meetings with adults, children, creatives and curators is essential.
Previous experience of working with collections and managing the care and conservation of art works is preferred but not essential.
You must be able to work in a team but also work independently and show pro-active qualities.
