Full job description

Job Summary:

As a Hospital Porter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of hospital operations by transporting patients, equipment, supplies, and medical records safely and efficiently across the hospital. Your professionalism, respect for patient privacy, and attention to detail will directly contribute to our high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities:

Safely transport patients (including those with limited mobility) to and from wards, operating theatres, diagnostic areas, and other departments.
Move medical equipment, supplies, specimens, medication, and documents between departments.
Assist with setting up rooms for procedures or cleaning following discharge.
Deliver meals and refreshments to patients as required.
Handle waste disposal in line with infection control policies.
Respond to emergency porter calls efficiently and professionally.
Maintain confidentiality and dignity of patients at all times.
Comply with all health and safety and infection control procedures.
Report equipment faults and maintenance issues promptly.

Person Specification:

Essential:

Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks (lifting, pushing hospital trolleys, wheelchairs, etc.).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Compassionate, calm, and respectful toward patients and staff.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Flexible approach to working hours (including evenings, weekends, and public holidays).
Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Desirable:

Previous experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment.
Awareness of infection control, manual handling, and health & safety practices.
