Who we are looking for…
Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking to recruit a Planning Officer (Development Management). You will be responsible for managing and assessing a range of planning applications, ensuring they comply with national and local planning policies and contribute positively to the community. Reporting to the Area Manager, this role involves handling a caseload of applications of varying complexity engaging with applicants, stakeholders, and the public to facilitate a clear, accessible planning process.
You will support the Development Management team’s objectives, promote sustainable development, and assist senior colleagues in maintaining high standards of service.
The successful candidate will need to possess a relevant degree or qualification in a related field and ideally have previous relevant experience. They will require good IT skills and have the ability to research and good practice in the further development of this area of work. They must also have a full driving licence, in order to carry out site visits.
