About the role

We are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated Fellow to join a multidisciplinary team investigating the metabolic adaptation of Aspergillus fumigatus during human infection and its impact on innate and adaptive immune responses.

This project combines high-throughput fungal phenotyping, metabolomics, and advanced immunological assays using ex vivo human models. The post offers an exceptional opportunity to work at the interface of fungal biology, immunology, and systems-level data analysis, contributing to a programme aimed at identifying mechanisms that underpin fungal survival and immune evasion in the lung.

What you would be doing

Support laboratory-based experiments investigating genomic-phenotypic correlates in fumigatusclinical and environmental isolates.
Conduct high-dimensional immunophenotyping and fungal infection assays using human whole blood and primary alveolar macrophages.
Integrate multi-omic datasets (metabolic, phenotypic, immunological) using computational approaches to define host–pathogen interaction networks.
Contribute to the design, execution, and interpretation of experimental work, ensuring rigorous data quality and reproducibility.
Work closely with collaborating groups across the Faculty of Medicine, including mycology, immunology, and computational biology teams.
Prepare manuscripts for publication, present findings at conferences, and contribute to grant development.
Support supervision of students and junior researchers in the laboratory.

What we are looking for

Clinically qualified (MBBS or equivalent)
GMC registration
Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, or equivalent
Significant clinical experience in general internal medicine and the management of infections
Understanding of good data management, reproducible research, research governance and responsible use of patient-linked datasets
