Full job description

Rural Action Derbyshire is looking for an experienced and motivated Rural Community Development Officer to support and empower rural communities across the county. This role focuses on delivering affordable housing initiatives, supporting community buildings, and promoting long-term sustainability.

You will work closely with community groups, parish and town councils, and local partners to strengthen rural communities and improve access to housing and resources.

Key Responsibilities

Promote awareness of affordable rural housing and Rural Exception Sites
Provide guidance on rural housing issues and support feasibility studies
Facilitate housing needs surveys to identify local demand
Develop relationships with community groups, parish and town councils, and partners
Manage the community buildings and village halls membership scheme
Deliver sustainability initiatives, including the ‘Pathway to Sustainability’ programme
Create inclusive and engaging ways to connect with rural communities

Requirements

Experience in community development (public or voluntary sector)
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to build and maintain partnerships
Professional, collaborative, and proactive approach
Charity sector experience (desirable but not essential)
