About the Role
We're looking for someone to take ownership of the customer-facing side of Pharmacie Coffee Roasters.
Your primary responsibility will be to lead the Front of House team, ensuring our café consistently delivers exceptional coffee, genuine hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere for every customer.
This is a leadership role as much as an operational one. You'll help create an environment where standards remain high, staff feel supported and customers enjoy returning, whether you're working that day or not.
We're not looking for someone who simply maintains the café. We're looking for someone who enjoys developing people, improving systems where appropriate and helping the business continue to grow.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership
- Lead the Front of House team with professionalism, consistency and positivity.
- Lead by example in customer service, teamwork and work ethic.
- Help create a supportive culture where staff communicate openly, treat one another with respect and take pride in their work.
- Encourage accountability while recognising that everyone is continually learning and developing.
Customer Experience
- Ensure every customer receives friendly, knowledgeable and genuine hospitality.
- Maintain consistently high standards of coffee preparation and service.
- Ensure the café remains clean, organised and welcoming throughout the day.
- Handle customer concerns professionally and confidently.
Team Development
- Train and support new members of staff.
- Coach existing staff to continually improve their coffee knowledge, technical ability and customer service.
- Help identify training needs and encourage ongoing development across the team.
- Conduct regular check-ins and provide constructive feedback where appropriate.
Café Operations
- Help organise staff rotas.
- Assist with stock ordering and stock control.
- Ensure opening, closing and operational procedures are consistently followed.
- Help maintain equipment and ensure any maintenance issues are reported promptly.
- Support cash handling and day-to-day operational administration where required.
Continuous Improvement
We believe good businesses are always evolving.
We're not looking for constant change for the sake of it, but we do value thoughtful suggestions that genuinely improve the customer experience or make life easier for the team.
If you notice something that could work better, we'd love to hear your ideas.
Supporting the Business
- Help maintain strong relationships with our wholesale customers.
- Occasionally assist with coffee training sessions for wholesale partners and members of the public.
- Represent Pharmacie professionally both inside and outside the business.
- Support company events, tastings and educational activities where appropriate.
Career Development
As Pharmacie continues to grow, there may be opportunities to broaden your role beyond Front of House, including coffee education, public cuppings and gaining experience in other areas of the business.
These opportunities will develop over time and will always be guided by business needs, your interests and your performance within the role.
What We're Looking For
Someone who:
- Leads with integrity and professionalism.
- Enjoys helping others develop.
- Communicates openly, respectfully and constructively.
- Takes ownership without feeling the need to control everything.
- Notices problems and helps solve them.
- Is passionate about coffee, hospitality and continuous learning.
- Wants to grow alongside the business over the coming years.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role isn't about doing everything yourself.
It's about building a team that consistently delivers excellent coffee, warm hospitality and smooth day-to-day operations.
If customers enjoy visiting Pharmacie, staff enjoy coming to work and the café continues to perform well whether you're on shift or not, you'll be doing an excellent job.
Salary & Development
Starting Pay
£14-15.50 per hour, depending on experience.

Three months.
During your probation we'll work closely together to help you settle into the role, understand the business and develop confidence in your responsibilities.
Following successful completion of probation, we'll hold quarterly performance reviews. These are collaborative conversations where we'll review progress, set or refine objectives, discuss opportunities for further development and review salary in line with performance, increasing responsibility and the needs of the business.
As Pharmacie grows, we expect this role to grow with it, creating opportunities for increased responsibility, professional development and career progression.
