Reports To: Senior Mentor / Alternative Provision Manager

About uReach

uReach is a dedicated, nurturing Alternative Provision centre designed specifically for primary-aged children (KS1 & KS2) with Special Educational Needs (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Born from our passion at uSports to ensure every child can thrive, uReach provides a safe, therapeutic, and purpose-driven environment for children who struggle within mainstream education. Our custom-built facility features therapeutic sensory rooms, quiet calm spaces, focus zones, a dynamic activity area, and a life-skills kitchen. We believe that a child can only learn and grow when they feel completely secure, calm, and valued.

Role Summary

As a Junior Mentor, you will be on the front lines of making a difference in a child’s life. Working alongside our experienced Senior Mentors and Educators, you will provide 1:1 and small-group support to help students navigate their emotional, social, and academic journeys. This is an entry-level or early-career role perfect for an empathetic, energetic, and resilient individual looking to build a career in special education and alternative provision.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Emotional Regulation. Build strong, trusting relationships with students, acting as a consistent, positive role model.Assist children with co-regulation strategies, utilizing our sensory and quiet rooms when students feel overwhelmed or anxious.Help children build resilience, self-esteem, and social skills through positive reinforcement.

Supporting Purpose-

Driven Activities Work alongside Senior Mentors to guide students through daily academic tasks in our focus zones.

Support hands-on, practical learning experiences, such as cooking and life skills in our dedicated kitchen. Facilitate physical and creative expression within the dynamic activity zones to help students safely channel their energy.

Team Collaboration & Safeguarding-

Provide feedback to senior staff regarding student progress, behavioral triggers, and small breakthroughs.Maintain a safe, clean, and highly organized environment tailored to sensory needs.Strictly adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection policies.Qualifications & Personal Attributes

Passion for Youth Support: A genuine desire to make a lasting, positive impact on children facing barriers to learning.Empathy & Patience: The ability to remain calm, patient, and grounded during moments of student dysregulation.Experience (Preferred but not essential): Prior experience volunteering or working with children, sports coaching, or working within a SEND/SEMH setting is a massive plus.Adaptability: A flexible mindset—no two days at uReach are the same!Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to effectively connect with primary-aged children and collaborate with the internal team.
