PENSIONS ASSISTANT

£26,403 - £28,142

2-Year Fixed Term Contract

Full Time (Hybrid)

About the role

You’ll support the day‑to‑day administration of LGPS pension benefits, working within established procedures and service standards. The role involves learning how to accurately process pension calculations and member record updates while delivering a positive, customer‑focused service.

You’ll be supported through training, development and on‑the‑job guidance as you build your knowledge and confidence.

Key responsibilities

Calculation and verification of LGPS pension benefits, applying LGPS regulations and pension legislation
Raise and respond to member, employer and other LGPS funds queries via phone, email and internal systems
Work to agreed deadlines, KPI’s and internal team targets
Contribute to team workload management and service improvements

What we’re looking for

An interest in pensions and public sector administration
Comfortable working in a structured, process‑driven environment
Able to maintain accuracy and attention to detail when completing routine tasks
A strong team player who is willing to learn and support colleagues
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a range of stakeholders
Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
