Join a team of experts and progressive thinkers
This is an exciting time to join Bevan Brittan as we embark on our new 5-year strategy to 2031, with the ability to attract, recruit and retain exceptional talent remaining a key part of the firm's continued growth journey. This has created a new opportunity for someone to join our Recruitment team, with a focus on building upon our successful direct sourcing strategy.
This is a brand-new role for the team, so the ideal candidate will have an innovative, adaptable and collaborative approach. You will bring a track record in implementing direct sourcing methods within the legal industry, either via a recruitment agency or in-house. You will also be someone who enjoys research / market mapping alongside proactive headhunting, and thrives when aiming to exceed hiring goals.
We work in a hybrid way across the firm and, in line with the needs of the role, can offer a high level of flexibility in terms of how you want to split your working week. We are happy to consider both full-time and part-time working arrangements (minimum 25 hours, ideally worked across 4-5 days).
The role
- Manage the direct sourcing recruitment process for a range of legal hires across the firm, with a focus on senior level appointments (predominantly Partners)
- Identify, recommend and deliver innovative and adaptable direct sourcing strategies to attract high quality candidates (both active and passive) within a competitive market
- Conduct research, build and maintain market maps across key areas - ultimately identifying and developing a pipeline of candidates to support future hiring needs across priority and / or growth areas
- Proactively engage with passive candidates across core practice areas, capturing market intelligence and building relationships ahead of future hiring opportunities
- During the initial 3-6 months in particular, work closely with individuals across the team to collectively ensure this exciting new role is well-integrated and embedded into our broader recruitment offering to the firm
- Develop a strong understanding of the firm's practice areas, growth markets and recruitment needs
- Track and analyse key direct recruitment performance data (e.g. headhunting conversion rates, time to source, time to hire etc.), identifying risks or opportunities to drive continuous improvement
- Deliver to annual direct hiring targets, agreed with the Senior Recruitment Business Partner
- Work collaboratively with others across the Recruitment team to advance various direct sourcing requirements from across the legal teams (e.g. search longlists, market maps, approaches), including co-leading a weekly direct sourcing-focussed team call
- Contribute your expertise to relevant Recruitment team projects, for example exploring new alternative or flexible resourcing models, or developing our EVP
- Build positive working relationships with internal and external key stakeholders
- Offer a professional and inclusive candidate experience, in line with the firm's values, commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and adherence to GDPR guidelines
- Act as a positive ambassador for the firm's EVP; contributing to enhanced brand awareness and reputation within the industry
- Maintain accurate records across hiring platforms, contributing to regular or ad hoc team reports on recruitment metrics
- Provide guidance and training (as required) to others in the team around direct sourcing methods
What we are looking for from you
- Legal recruitment experience (in-house / agency) is essential, including senior (ideally partner) appointments
- Track record of implementing successful direct sourcing strategies and meeting relevant recruitment goals or KPIs
- Experience using online legal market mapping and headhunting platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, Pirical)
- Ability to effectively manage multiple hiring projects simultaneously, prioritising appropriately
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a professional, confident and discreet approach to building rapport with both internal stakeholders and candidates
- Able to develop and leverage candidate and industry networks within the legal sector
- Self-starter; able to work effectively independently and as part of a collaborative team
- A good working knowledge of IT packages (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Acting responsibly, now and for the future
To us, being a responsible business is second nature; a core part of Bevan Brittan's identity. Our colleagues are heavily involved in shaping and delivering activity across the four pillars of our Responsible Business strategy : Community Engagement; Environmental Sustainability; Equality, Diversity & Inclusion; and Wellbeing.
Our people deliver pro bono legal work for charities and not-for-profit organisations. We play an active role in our local communities and donated £100,000 across our four regional office charities last year. We are also proudly carbon neutral. We've achieved the UN's Climate Neutral Now accreditation and our environmental sustainability plan focuses on achieving our net zero carbon target by 2040.
Collectively, the four pillars ensure we look after our colleagues' wellbeing; offer an environment in which everyone can progress on merit, give something back to the communities in which we work; and protect the environment.
