The role
The Senior Motor Vehicle Technician will be responsible for delivering high‑level diagnostic, repair, and maintenance work on a wide range of vehicles while supporting junior technicians and ensuring workshop quality standards. This role combines advanced technical expertise with leadership, problem‑solving, and customer‑focused communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced diagnostics — Perform complex fault‑finding using manufacturer systems, diagnostic tools, and technical data.
- Vehicle repairs — Carry out major mechanical and electrical repairs, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, and electronic control units.
- Routine maintenance — Complete scheduled servicing to manufacturer standards.
- Quality control — Inspect completed work, ensure compliance with safety and industry regulations, and maintain high workshop standards.
- Technical leadership — Mentor apprentices and junior technicians, provide guidance, and support training.
- Customer communication — Explain technical issues and repair options clearly to customers when required.
- Documentation — Complete accurate service records, job cards, and diagnostic reports.
- Tool and equipment management — Ensure workshop tools are maintained, calibrated, and used safely.
- Compliance — Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Required Skills & Experience
- Level 3 Motor Vehicle Qualification (IMI, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- MOT Tester certification (desirable but not always required).
- Extensive experience in diagnostics, mechanical repair, and electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of modern vehicle technologies (hybrid, EV, ADAS).
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic data.
- Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to mentor and support less‑experienced technicians.
- Full UK driving licence.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday 08:00-17:00 and every fourth Saturday 08:00-12:00

Salary: £ competitive depending on experience, plus bonus
