AIM AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The purpose of the role is to deliver high quality teaching and learning by providing students with a planned learning experience and to complete all the necessary administrative duties associated with the teaching role.

Planning and preparation – plan and prepare in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum, by:

Producing and maintaining schemes of work, lesson plans and course outlines

Developing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and assessment schedules

Preparing lessons with clear aims, objectives and assessment opportunities

Creating and sourcing appropriate teaching, learning and assessment resources

Providing assignment briefs and assessment materials appropriate to each programme

Planning a coherent learning and assessment experience for students
Delivery - high-quality teaching and learning across a range of programmes by:

Teaching across a variety of programmes (and two campuses) associated subject areas

Creating a stimulating, inclusive and engaging learning environment

Managing and monitoring the learning process effectively

Providing regular opportunities for formative and summative assessment
-
Giving timely, constructive and developmental feedback to learners

Supporting students to achieve their learning goals

Using Information Learning Technology (ILT) and emerging technologies effectively

Applying effective classroom management strategies, including addressing lateness

Ensuring all activities are delivered safely, including correct use of equipment/PPE

Liaising with course teams to ensure consistent and effective curriculum delivery
Quality - Contribute to continuous quality improvement by:

Monitoring - Monitor and track student progress by:

Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records of attendance, progress and achievement

Monitoring learner performance against targets and curriculum standards

Maintaining ILPs, progress tracking and performance records in line with College procedures
Assessment and verification - Ensure robust assessment practices by:

Marking student work promptly in line with agreed timescales

Providing clear, constructive and actionable feedback

Assessing learners against curriculum criteria using agreed marking schemes

Setting appropriate coursework and assessment tasks

Advising students on progress, targets and ILPs

Providing opportunities for student reflection and feedback

Acting as an assessor and/or internal verifier where required
Associated administrative duties - Maintain effective administrative systems by:

Ensuring students are correctly enrolled and registered

Maintaining accurate attendance registers

Identifying and reporting non-attendance concerns

Making appropriate referrals to College services

Liaising with internal departments (e.g. Exams, MIS) where required

Escalating concerns to the Curriculum Manager as appropriate

Keeping accurate and effective systems that support student progress and College requirements
Curriculum Development and CPD - Support curriculum innovation and professional development by:

Developing new courses and associated curriculum areas

Updating curriculum delivery in line with awarding body requirements

Undertaking subject-specific and pedagogical CPD

Engaging in development activities agreed with the Curriculum Manager/Director

Contributing to curriculum design, review and enhancement

Supporting effective co-ordination of curriculum across study centres

Attending meetings, conferences and training to maintain professional expertise
Student Recruitment and Support - Support recruitment, retention and student success by:

Taking an active role in learner recruitment, advice and guidance

Supporting student satisfaction, attendance and achievement

Referring learners to Welfare, Careers or support services where appropriate

Liaising with Personal Tutors and other staff on student issues requiring further action
Health and Safety - Maintain safe working practices by:

Ensuring safe delivery across all programme areas

Adhering to statutory health and safety requirements

Taking responsibility for health and safety within own work area

Completing and maintaining risk assessments where required
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the - .

Conditions of Service – Academic staff
The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. The work pattern of a Lecturer is not necessarily linked to the traditional academic year.

SALARY
The salary range for this post is from £16,012.20 to £24,847.80 per annum, pro rata. Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale. Increments are in August.
TEACHING QUALIFICATION
Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of their appointment. Successful applicants will be required to attend the course on-site as the College delivers the course in-house.
Please note– whilst obtaining a teaching qualification is a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds, and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available.
MATHS AND ENGLISH
All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.
SAFEGUARDING
The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
All newly appointed staff will be required to undertake safeguarding training following their appointment.
Heart of Worcestershire College adheres to the Department of Education’s guidance on ‘Keeping children safe in Education’. As part of your induction, you will be required to read and understand part 1 of this document.
ONLINE CHECKS
Candidates shortlisted for interview and then subsequently become successful in the recruitment process and prior to a formal offer of employment being made will be subject to online checks being carried out by a neutral party not directly involved in the recruitment process. VALIDATION OF QUALIFICATIONS
The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.
HOURS OF WORK
The hours of work will be based on 22.2 hours per week, of this 15 hours per week will be delivery. Actual hours of work to be agreed with the manager.
ANNUAL LEAVE – pro rata
The post carries 37 annual leave days with an additional eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as ‘leave to be taken at the Principal’s discretion’. Annual leave will be pro rata if part time.
Please note that only in exceptional circumstances, with your Directors permission, will staff be able to take more than 3 consecutive weeks of leave in any leave year.
PENSION SCHEME
The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the ‘Teachers Pensions’.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
All newly appointed staff have to serve a 9-month probationary period. During the probationary period you will have to complete the Corporate staff induction, a Teaching and Learning Induction session if you deliver learning and additional mandatory courses on: Equality & Diversity session, Keeping Children safe in Education, Safeguarding Training session, Prevent, GDPR, Cyber Security and Health & Safety training session. Failure to complete these will prevent you from successfully completing your probation.

All candidates have to have 2 satisfactory references.
LOCATION
The successful applicant will be based at our Worcester and Bromsgrove Campuses but may be required to work at other locations from time to time.

The costs of this check will be deducted from the applicants first salary payment from the College. TRAINING
All successful applicants will be required to undertake all mandatory training and update sessions and any appropriate training and development as required, including Health and Safety.
