Hartwell Manufacturing are a privately owned company, who have been providing high-quality machining and fabrication services to the industry, since 1974.
We are looking for a proactive and versatile Engineering Operative to join our team within a fast-paced engineering manufacturing environment. You will play a key role in supporting skilled tradespeople, engineers, and technicians by assisting with various manual tasks and operating basic equipment. This role is ideal for someone with a strong focus on safety, attention to detail, and a willingness to get hands-on with engineering projects. Experience within the UK’s manufacturing or engineering sectors will be beneficial.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and setup of engineering manufacturing areas and production lines.
- Carry out manual tasks such as sanding, grinding, lagging, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace.
- Safely operate basic hand tools, machinery, and equipment under supervision.
- Assist in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of engineering components and systems.
- Work closely with fabricators, welders, and other skilled tradespeople to support production tasks.
- Move materials, parts, and tools between work areas using manual handling techniques or machinery such as forklifts.
- Assist engineers and technicians in conducting quality checks, measurements, and safety inspections.
- Follow all health and safety protocols, including wearing PPE, to ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure production targets and quality standards are met.
- Be flexible in supporting various stages of the production process as required by the project.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a labouring or operative role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of basic engineering processes and manufacturing principles.
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks, including lifting heavy items.
- Competent in using hand tools and basic machinery.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions from skilled engineers and supervisors.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive attitude towards teamwork.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- A strong commitment to following health and safety regulations at all times.
- A valid Counterbalance Forklift licence would be an advantage but is not essential.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to working in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in UK-based engineering or manufacturing settings.
- Knowledge of UK health and safety regulations specific to engineering and manufacturing environments.
