Purpose of role
The Nomad Housing and Progression Officer will meet new clients to assess their suitability for the Nomad SmartSteps programme. As well as offering ongoing support with practicalities surrounding their tenancy, the post holder will provide ongoing developmental support to clients around such matters as improving self-esteem and self-confidence, growing skills and friendships and securing employment. The post holder will also support the rest of the Housing Officer team to provide similar support, stepping in to provide expert advice and input as appropriate.
This role will be for 8-9 months to cover maternity leave
Key tasks
Therapeutic and Developmental Tasks -
· engage with clients at “move in” stage to ensure that a productive and trusting relationship is developed.
· take a 'whole person' approach to each client’s physical and mental wellbeing by considering all their needs - physical, social, psychological and environmental.
· ensure delivery of a strength based service in line with Nomad policies and procedures.
· meet with clients to develop and arrange activities and other related sessions.
· develop suitable creative therapy programs for clients based on their needs, objectives, and preferred forms of expression.
· actively listen to clients and advise them on suitable activities.
· support clients to develop skills including social skills, e.g. in handling money and social interaction.
· support clients to recognise and adjust inappropriate behaviour.
· identify and plan group activities to reflect current issues and topics such as arranging women’s self-defence classes, consent and personal responsibility.
· take responsibility for any equipment required to run a range of activities.
· organise and carry out both one-on-one and group workshops and activities.
· in group workshops, encourage members of the group to relate to each other through the activity being practised.
· in creative group sessions, encourage clients to explore their work and think about what it means to them.
· teach clients coping skills and strategies to enable them to deal with challenging and traumatic experiences.
· plan and deliver quarterly client focused events such as an Eid celebration and a Summer Picnic.
· ensure active involvement in all workshops, groups and activities.
Practical and Administrative Tasks -
· with support from Housing Projects Manager, ensure that a full assessment and matching process is undertaken for each new service user to place them in the right property, with the right landlord, the right housemates and with appropriate support to sustain their tenure.
· conduct assessments and referrals of new clients and dealing with all housing practicalities.
· support tenants with all practical matters associated with managing and holding a tenancy.
· write a monthly report for funders and Trustees.
· maintain detailed case notes for each client.
· develop and implement Action Plans with service users.
· carry out day to day office functions to ensure that all records and files are maintained and confidentiality of information is upheld.
· maintain accurate case records; monitor, review and evaluate the progress of service users within the scheme and record all tenancies on the Inform database and internal electronic and paper based case recording systems.
· write quarterly case studies for use on social media, on the Nomad website, in reports and with funders.
· recruit and manage a group of Housing and Progression volunteers.
· undertake any other tasks as reasonably requested by line manager or CEO.
