Join a Leading Manufacturer
Established in 1971, PSS is a long-standing and respected manufacturer of power steering, hydraulic, and mechanical components. Based in North Walsham, we have spent more than 50 years supplying high-quality products to customers across the UK and beyond.
We are looking to recruit an experienced CNC Machinist to join our machining department. Applications are welcomed from both CNC Turners and CNC Millers.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled programmer/setter/operator who enjoys producing high-quality precision components and contributing to the development of new and existing products.
The Role
This is not an operator-only position. We are looking for a machinist who can take responsibility for programming, setting, and machining components from engineering drawings through to finished parts.
You will be manufacturing precision metal components used throughout our own range of steering, hydraulic, and mechanical products, working closely with our engineering and production teams to ensure quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Our machine shop primarily operates FANUC and Mazak-controlled CNC lathes and milling machines.
Key Responsibilities
- Programming, setting, and operating CNC lathes and milling machines.
- Producing precision metal components to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Selecting appropriate tooling, workholding, and machining strategies.
- Editing and optimising CNC programs to improve efficiency and quality.
- Conducting first-off inspections and in-process quality checks.
- Using measuring equipment to verify dimensional accuracy and tolerances.
- Identifying and resolving machining and production issues.
- Supporting the introduction of new components and manufacturing processes.
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a CNC Turner or CNC Miller.
- Ability to program, set, and operate CNC machinery independently.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, cutting parameters, and workholding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and the ability to read, write, and understand English.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with FANUC controls.
- Experience with Mazak machines and Mazatrol programming.
- Experience machining a variety of materials including steel, aluminium, and cast iron.
- Experience producing low-to-medium volume production runs.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
Working Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 7:00am – 5:00pm
- One Friday per month: 7:00am – 11:45am (11 months of the year)
This shift pattern provides employees with a three-day weekend for most weeks of the year.
