About the role
We are looking for an experienced, reliable and proactive Warehouse Team Leader to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of our warehouse and fulfilment operation.
NutriCraft is a growing health food business specialising in organic and natural food products. We import, store, pack and distribute a wide range of products to individuals and small businesses in the UK and internationally.
This is a hands-on leadership role. We are not looking for someone who wants to spend their day behind a desk. You will work alongside the warehouse team, carrying out the normal day-to-day warehouse and fulfilment work, while also taking responsibility for organising the team, putting systems in place, maintaining standards and making sure the operation runs efficiently.
You will be the main point of contact for the warehouse team during the working day and will report directly to the company owner.
Your responsibilities
Leading the warehouse team
- Organising and allocating daily work to warehouse staff
- Ensuring orders are picked, packed and dispatched accurately and on time
- Monitoring progress throughout the day and changing priorities when necessary
- Making sure team members understand what is expected of them
- Training and supporting new members of staff
- Maintaining good standards of productivity, accuracy and cleanliness
- Addressing mistakes and poor performance rather than simply correcting them yourself
- Setting a positive example by working alongside the team
Warehouse & fulfilment
- Picking and packing customer orders
- Goods-in and checking incoming deliveries
- Stock put-away and organisation
- Stock checks and investigating discrepancies
- Preparing orders for courier collection
- Managing courier collections and resolving day-to-day dispatch issues
- Keeping the warehouse clean, organised and safe
- Ensuring stock is stored correctly and rotated appropriately
- Using our warehouse and order management systems
Staffing & resource planning
- Monitor workload and order volumes and anticipate when additional staff will be required.
- Take responsibility for arranging additional temporary cover from our existing pool of casual staff during particularly busy periods.
- Contact and organise temporary staff as required, ensuring sufficient staffing is in place to meet workload and dispatch requirements.
- Plan ahead rather than waiting for management to identify that additional resource is needed.
Quality & food safety
As we handle food products, maintaining high standards is particularly important.
You will be expected to ensure that warehouse procedures are followed correctly, including:
- Correct product identification and labelling
- Batch and stock rotation procedures
- Good hygiene and housekeeping
- Cleaning procedures
- Preventing cross-contamination
- Following company food safety procedures
- Reporting quality or product issues promptly
What we're looking for
We are looking for someone who naturally takes responsibility and doesn't need to be told what to do at every stage.
You should be:
- Experienced in a warehouse, fulfilment, production or similar environment
- Comfortable supervising or leading other people
- Highly organised and able to prioritise competing tasks
- Proactive and willing to take initiative and puts systems in place where needed
- Able to use a forklift truck
- Confident giving instructions and addressing problems
- Reliable and conscientious
- Physically capable of carrying out normal warehouse duties
- Comfortable working at pace when required
- Accurate and attentive to detail
- Comfortable using computers and warehouse/order management systems
- A good communicator
- Someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards
Previous experience in food, health food, food manufacturing or another regulated environment would be an advantage, but is not essential.
The person we're looking for
As well as experience, the most important thing for us is attitude and initiative.
We need someone who sees a problem and deals with it rather than waiting for someone else to notice.
If orders are falling behind, you will organise the team to catch up.
If someone is making repeated mistakes, you will address the issue.
If the warehouse isn't organised properly, you will sort it out.
If something goes wrong, you will take ownership and find a solution.
You will have support from management, but we want someone who can confidently run the warehouse on a day-to-day basis without needing constant supervision.
What we offer
- £34,000 starting salary, increasing to £35,000 after 6 month probation period.
