Yarnton Garden Centre is looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Tills and Customer Service Assistant to support our Tills & Customer Service Manager and ensure every customer enjoys an exceptional experience.

This is a key operational role combining hands-on till work with team support, helping to maintain high standards of customer service and operational efficiency. You will act as second-in-command, supporting and mentoring the till team while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

Position: Senior Tills and Customer Service Assistant
Location: Yarnton Garden Centre
Hours: 42.5 hours per week | Alternate weekend working required
Salary: Competitive

About the Role:

As Senior Tills and Customer Service Assistant, you will support the Tills & Customer Service Manager in overseeing the till and service desk operations. You will assist in team leadership, mentor junior colleagues, and ensure every customer receives a seamless and positive experience. You will also handle transactions and help maintain operational efficiency and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service & Team Support

Deliver friendly, professional, and efficient service to all customers.
Handle customer queries, concerns, and refunds in line with company procedures.
Support coaching and mentoring of junior till operators to maintain high service standards.
Monitor customer interactions and help implement improvements to enhance the shopping experience.

Operational & Team Support

Assist the Tills & Customer Service Manager with staffing, scheduling, and rota management.
Step in to manage the till team during the manager’s absence or busy periods.
Help oversee holiday planning, seasonal recruitment, and team onboarding.
Support management of staff performance, absence, and adherence to company policies.

Financial & Compliance Duties

Accurately process cash, card, and other payment methods.
Assist with cash handling, banking, and reconciliation processes.
Maintain vigilance around theft prevention, compliance, and security standards.
Ensure the till and service desk area is clean, organised, and welcoming.

About You:

Professional, approachable, and well-presented.
Passionate about delivering excellent customer service.
Reliable, organised, and attentive to detail.
Confident supporting and mentoring a team.
Previous retail or garden centre experience, particularly in tills or supervisory roles, is highly desirable.
