S&A Group is the UK’s largest independent strawberry grower. The Group, which also has berry-growing operations overseas, uses modern and innovative growing techniques to drive and support its thriving year-round soft fruit import business.
At our main packaging facility in Marden, Herefordshire we store, pack, and distribute around 30 million units of UK and imported production each year; we operate up to 8 packaging lines, which are installed with checkweighers, heat sealers and thermal printers.
Our produce is picked, graded, packaged, and delivered to our customers within 24 hours to ensure our fruits are fresh, tasty, and as natural as possible.
We now have a new opportunity for a full-time, permanent vacancy in our Marden Packhouse:
Packhouse Proseal Machine Operator
Responsible for the setting up, adjustment & efficient operation of the ‘Proseal’ heat sealing machines. Completing all related documents to support the company quality policies.
The main duties and responsibilities include:
- Working to procedures to ensure the produce being packed is within customer specifications
- Operation & set up of the heat sealing machine to achieve maximum efficiencies relating to productivity & running cost of the packing line.
- Continually checking the quality of work in progress & finished product ensuring the film seal & print quality is to customer specification.
- Document control is maintained at all times in respect of online checks, compliance to changes sheet, label & film checks etc.
- To care & maintain machinery to keep in good operational condition. Immediately reporting any malfunction or concern to the line Supervisor.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in operating Proseal (heat sealing) machines or similar packaging equipment - essential.
- Experience in working in a busy factory environment (understanding fresh produce processes will be an advantage).
- Ability to operate calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Flexible approach to working hours.
Working days: 4 days on, 3 days off - on rota basis, including one weekend day.
Working hours: 12-hour shifts on a variable schedule.
Overtime: Paid at 1.25x for hours worked over 48 per week.
Flexibility will be required during peak periods of production.
