Role Introduction

Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service (LMWS) is advertising employment and training positions for Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWP) via a Post-Graduate Certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions

Successful applicants will train as PWP's at the University of Sheffield (one day a week) whilst working with LMWS (4 days a week). These roles are 12 month fixed term positions available in the following employment organisations within LMWS.

The Trainee PWP's will work with clients who present with a range of common mental health problems within step 2 of the stepped care model. You will need to have a level 6 qualification and a minimum of 2 years experience of working with clients with a wide range of mental health conditions. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong desire to help clients with their mental health.

LMWS is committed to ensuring the service reflects the diversity of the population it serves. We are therefore especially keen to receive applications from under-represented communities.

Initial Interview dates: 4th, 5thth & 6th August
Succesful candidates will then go onto an additional interview with the university.

Trainee PWPs will be expected to balance their professional role and their trainee role simultaneously this means that there will be university work to complete outside of the working hours. As a service we pride ourselves on being considerate and realistic with helping students to manage their caseload and studying. Trainees can expect to shadow those already working as qualified PWPs and to work towards providing the same standard of assessment to clients who present to our service.

In addition to good quality assessments, successful candidates can expect to gain a steadily increasing caseload where they are able to provide Guided Self Help (GSH) to clients who have mild to moderate symptoms of anxiety and depression in a clinic. Trainees are also expected to shadow and facilitate groups and so this provides an exciting opportunity to provide support to many people and support them through their own learning and reflection.

Finally, trainees also provide support via an online platform called Silvercloud. Trainees are expected to remain vigilant around their clients to be able to support them through changes in their presentation, to assess safety and risk and to provide appropriate support including signposting if the clients needs are not best supported by LMWS. Once qualified PWPs can expect to start to work more independently and to provide one late shift a week working until 7pm.
