About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised, proactive, and dependable Bookkeeper & Credit Controller to manage the day-to-day finances of our care home on a fully remote basis. You will work from home, off site, with regular contact by phone, email, and video with our leadership team and Directors.
This is a finance-focused role centred on invoicing, credit control, and reconciliation. You will own the billing cycle from raising invoices through to chasing and recovering outstanding balances, keeping our records accurate and up to date in Xero. It offers responsibility, autonomy, and the chance to make a real difference to a small, supportive care home.
Key Responsibilities
- Raise and issue invoices to families and self-funding residents, as well as councils and NHS funders
- Run credit control end to end: chase outstanding balances, issue statements and reminders, and escalate aged debt
- Process sales and purchase invoices in Xero
- Complete bank and ledger reconciliations in Xero
- Review and audit agency staff invoices
- Resolve billing and account queries from families, councils, and the NHS
- Produce regular finance and aged debtor reports for the Directors
- Support monthly payroll preparation remotely, including timesheet and rota checks
What We're Looking For
- Solid bookkeeping experience, ideally including credit control or debt recovery
- Proficiency with Xero (or a similar accounting system)
- Strong Excel and general IT skills
- Confident, professional communicator, comfortable having sensitive conversations about outstanding balances
- Highly self-motivated and reliable, able to work independently from home
- Experience in the care sector (desirable but not essential)
What You'll Get
- £14 to £18 per hour
- Up to 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, set daytime hours
- Fully remote and home-based, with no commute
- A varied finance role with real ownership and responsibility
- A supportive, welcoming, close-knit team
Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- Up to 20 hours per week
- Daytime hours, no weekends
Experience
- Bookkeeping: 2 years (preferred)
- Credit control or accounts receivable: 1 year (preferred)
