Your Role
As a valued member of the Port team, you will play an important role in delivering an outstanding experience for everyone who uses our facilities - whether island residents, visitors from the UK and beyond, or commercial partners.
You will also be key to ensuring our ports operate safely, securely, and efficiently. From supporting pier maintenance and managing traffic flow, to assisting with vessel movements and maintaining a clean, organised environment, your contribution will help create a welcoming and well-run port for all.
Day-to-Day Working
This is a varied and dynamic role, offering a flexible shift pattern that includes weekends, public holidays, and evenings - ideal for those who thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
Some days you’ll start early to welcome the first arrivals, while others may see you staying later to ensure operations run smoothly until the final vessel departs. There may also be occasions where you are required to work outside standard operating hours due to operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Ticketing & Sales

Deliver fast, friendly, and accurate ticket sales
- Support customers in choosing the best travel options
- Operate ticketing systems efficiently and professionally
Customer Experience

Provide outstanding customer service, responding to queries and resolving issues
- Clearly communicate ticketing details, policies, and procedures
- Support customers during service disruptions, including changes and cancellations
Cash Handling

Accurately process cash and card payments
- Provide clear receipts and ensure secure transactions
Data & Administration

Maintain accurate customer and ticketing records
- Record and report sailing statistics to support operations
Maintenance & Cleaning

Carry out routine cleaning and maintenance tasks
- Identify and report any maintenance or safety concerns
Outdoor Operations

Safely marshal vehicles within the port area
- Direct traffic during embarkation and disembarkation
Safety & Security

Monitor the pier to maintain a safe and secure environment
- Follow procedures to respond effectively to incidents and emergencies
- Undertake any other duties as required by the Port Manager

- You will receive an additional 12.5% unsociable hours payment for shifts starting before 08:00 and/or finishing after 19:00.
- Basic hourly rates apply up to 40 hours per week, with hours beyond this paid at 1.75 times the standard rate.
