Full job description

We are a newly established, FCA-registered alternative investment fund based in London. As we build out our founding team, we are seeking a highly capable Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to establish and own our compliance function from the ground up. This is an opportunity to shape a compliance framework within a lean, well-governed alternative investment firm at inception.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Board, you will be the firm's sole compliance lead — responsible for drafting, implementing, and maintaining all policies and procedures across AML/KYC, GDPR, investor complaints, conflicts of interest, and annual FCA regulatory reporting. You will serve as a non-voting member of the Investment Committee to ensure compliance considerations are embedded at the point of investment decision. This role is open to both full-time and senior consultancy arrangements for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Draft, implement, and maintain all compliance policies and procedures from inception
Conduct customer due diligence (CDD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD) on investor subscriptions; maintain 5-year records
File Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the National Crime Agency where required
Manage the firm's GDPR obligations, including breach identification and tiered notification
Prepare and file annual regulatory reports to the FCA within statutory deadlines
Notify the FCA of any material changes to the fund within required timeframes
Maintain and annually review the Conflicts of Interest Register
Attend Investment Committee meetings in a non-voting capacity to flag compliance concerns
Manage the investor complaints procedure end to end
Deliver quarterly compliance updates to the Board

What We Are Looking For

Holder of CF10 (Compliance Oversight) and CF11 (MLRO) credentials, or equivalent post-SM&CR status (SMF16/SMF17)
Minimum 5 to 7 years of compliance experience within financial services; alternative asset fund experience strongly preferred
Working knowledge of AML/CFT legislation, GDPR (UK), and relevant FCA Handbook sourcebooks
Proven ability to draft and implement a compliance framework from scratch within a small or newly regulated firm
ICA Diploma, CISI qualification, or equivalent is desirable
Experience overseeing third-party service providers (fund administrators, auditors) is relevant and valued
High degree of professional judgment and the ability to work independently in a lean team structure

What We Offer

Competitive salary of £80,000 – £120,000 depending on experience and arrangement
Consultancy arrangements considered for the right senior candidate (£500 – £750 per day)

A well-structured regulatory foundation with experienced legal and audit service providers in place
London base with flexibility where appropriate

Day Rate available: £500-£750

Pay: £80,000.00-£120,000.00 per year
