About the Role
Due to continued growth, we are seeking experienced and motivated Civils Operatives to join our delivery teams working on Openreach network infrastructure projects across the UK.
The role involves carrying out a range of civil engineering and reinstatement activities to support the installation and maintenance of the Openreach telecommunications network. Successful candidates must be prepared to travel and work away from home when required, with accommodation and allowances provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Excavation and reinstatement works in footways, carriageways, and verges.
- Installation of ducts, chambers, and associated telecoms infrastructure.
- Breaking out and reinstating various surface types to specification.
- Assisting with cable installation and network build activities.
- Operating hand tools, power tools, and small plant equipment.
- Ensuring all works are completed safely and in accordance with Openreach and local authority specifications.
- Completing site paperwork and records accurately.
- Maintaining a high standard of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Working closely with supervisors, gangs, and client representatives.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in civils, utilities, telecoms, or construction.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- NRSWA Street Works Qualification.
- CSCS Card.
- Good understanding of safe digging practices and utility avoidance.
- Ability to work as part of a team and under own initiative.
- Willingness to travel nationwide and work away from home when required.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working on Openreach projects.
- SA002 accreditation.
- CPCS/NPORS Plant Tickets (Excavator, Dumper, Roller).
- First Aid at Work.
- Cat & Genny certification.
- Experience with telecoms network build and PIA works.

Skills
- Experience operating excavators or similar heavy machinery is highly desirable
- Skilled in using hand tools such as spanners, screwdrivers, hammers, etc., with precision and care
- Familiarity with power tools including drills, saws, and grinders for construction tasks
- Mechanical knowledge relevant to fibre optic installation or civil engineering works is advantageous
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while maintaining high safety standards
- Good organisational skills with an eye for detail to ensure accuracy in all tasks undertaken
