I would often do a similar range of tasks, largely including cleaning out the interiors and exteriors of the camel, river hog, and tapir enclosures of leaves, dung and excess turf, under the supervision of the keepers there. It was rewarding work; long and repetitive, but therapeutic, and I endured the physical challenges presented by it, every time completing my tasks to perfection. The keepers who supervised me and gave me things to do were very helpful and clear in instructing me of the work, and always gave me positive feedback. My most memorable moment from the job has to be having the almost surreal experience of feeding a capybara from the hand.

Don't work here if you care about your animals, at best you will clean them and feed them, no enrichment, equipment falling apart, enclosures falling apart, stereotypic behaviours and poor diets, toxic management, company wants you to give all and get nothing in return. 
Low pay, hours worked over contract with no compensation or overtime missed lunch breaks with no thanks, treated like a number, no care for the staff, you are replaceable. 
Some very Poor managers sitting in offices know nothing about who you are, how you are, what your job actually involves and nor do they care. "If you don't like it, you can leave". 
 Don't bother. Stay away if you value your mental wellbeing, and your career. All this place gives you is mental and physical exhaustion. 

Working there can be good at times, I became reliable and hardworking which yes in turn gave me more hours on a zero hour contract but it also became stressful. Asking for certain days off for reasons became harder, ending up doing multiple people's jobs including my own.  It's very much a high school environment if your in with a group then it's good but if your out it becomes very secluded. There's lots favouritism. There's a 3 strike system so 3 strikes and your fired which some strikes are given for ridiculous reasons. Your get discount on food and drinks it's not much. During season it's very stressful with customers being rude and shouting at you and you've just got to take it. 

Physical and Lecture work combined throughout the week with brilliant results, typical day included mornings in lectures comprising of talks of different species of animals, surveys into the behaviour of animals as well as the works of conservation. Afternoons was more physical where we fed certain zoo creatures such as Wallabys as well as doing field work for our enrichment project (how we could improve the enclosure of the animals to ensure natural instincts still prevailed) I learned how to work more as a team as well as a broader animal knowledge than before

I enjoyed all aspects of the week and can not identify any hard bits as we all worked as a team

the place completly runs on if the managers like you or not not guaranteed enough hours to even get a wage to live on. none of the managers who run catering have a clue what they are doing they ring you off because of the "weather" but they have about 20 staff members aka "the favourites" in early so the ones that started later got called off trust me if your not a favourite straight away your not getting any hoursand if you bring it up to them they start having a hissy fit about it my advice dont work here but by all means visit the place its a great place to go for a day out

I enjoyed my time at blackpool zoo working in their soft play area next door,  I learnt many of my skills I have now from working there and there is opportunities to step up the ladder, the zoo as a whole is a friendly place and everyone from other departments  always smile and say hello to each other, very understanding with days,  hours and can juggle home life and childcare in-between.  I recommend this company and also greatful for the opportunities I was given. 

A typical day at work would be a mix between quiet and busy periods of time. I learnt most of my till skills here and how to handle incoming deliveries. The management is great and easy to get on with. the most enjoyable part of my day is when i turn up looking forward to the day ahead of me and meeting the working team as well as the public.

During my time at the zoo I was faced with a number of different activities to work with. The majority of my time was spent outdoors selling balloons around the zoo or supervising children on the inflatables. Whenever I was inside, I would be placed on the catering till in the café, taking orders and bringing them to the customers. Inside I would also clean tables, party rooms and set up the play area for the next coming day.

A typical working day for me in the catering department included serving customers and handling food. it is good because you get put in different places so its not just the same thing everyday. i loved the staff they are all lovely and like a second family. Managers are amazing and are really down to earth. good incentives such as 4 free tickets to the zoo every month, 25% off retail and 50% of catering.
