From interview to starting employment, the whole process was straight forward and I was put at ease throughout. The interview was informal and I felt very comfortable. All the questions asked were self explanatory and nothing was there to catch you out- but merely to get the best from you.

I was offered the position the very same day and was kept up to date with the next steps. My DBS was delayed due to Christmas break and COVID, but Coleg SIr Gar kept in touch throughout. 

I was invited in to the College to meet my soon to be colleagues before my official start date, so that gave me a chance to meet everyone informally and get to know my way around the college.

My training has been first class and nothing has been too much trouble. I have joined the department during a very busy time and yet there has still been time to help answer any questions that I have asked.   The team are very welcoming and made me feel at home from the word go. 

The days/weeks are already fly by and I am really enjoying the new daily challenges. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The front line staff are diligent and professional.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Managers without ANY comprehension of physical labour.
Their obsession with managerialism and ESTYN, makes working there unbearable.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Directors fabricate urgency through poor management, with scant regard for frontline employees. This creates an unwarranted stress, and adversarial culture.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy, and stressful. 
Students seldom respect spaces and equipment, directors and mangers do very little to negate this culture.

Coleg Sir Gar is a lovely place to work. I felt that the whole recruitment process was smooth and I felt well informed at every stage of the process.
From my very first day I have felt supported by the rest of my team and by my manager. I have received excellent training from my colleague and felt like I was already settled into the team after less than 2 weeks. All of the staff at Coleg Sir Gar are so friendly and welcoming to everyone. 
The organisation also has some great employee benefits such as additional days on top of your standard annual leave and bank holidays, excellent pension scheme, free parking and access to the onsite gym. 
 

I am lucky to be part of a fantastic team within the college. We support each other with our day to day workloads and organise monthly events outside of work hours.

Management are incredibly supportive and are always striving to help where they can. They recommend funded courses that can benefit your own career progression.

Holidays are incredibly generous and flexible working can be negotiated. There is also an excellent pension scheme and the security of full sick pay.

Coleg Sir Gâr has the potential to be a fantastic place but, with more managers out to prove themselves while trampling on tutors, it is mostly toxic. Staff are mostly unhappy but trapped into the place because, despite the negatives, the holidays and pay keep people there.

Staff are treated badly and wellbeing is of no concern.  Students are just numbers and money to management.  Tutors have excessive workloads, work over their hours and are constantly made to feel worthless!! If you want to go into teaching, go somewhere you'll be appreciated.

Staff are all supportive and wonderful. It is easy to get to know all the students and staff, due to being such a small campus. Great courses with practical work and the advantage of being outdoors, as well as the classroom. 
Despite pay being a downfall and my particular contract being mixed with permanent and casual hours, which is a struggle during holidays when causal hours are not paid, I can’t see myself working anywhere else. Well being is considered greatly. Management are supportive and kind. 

Coleg Sir Gar is a fantastic place to work. I have been fully supported since day one and have a fantastic team to support me. Aside from my role, Coleg Sir Gar has outstanding benefits such as; 41 days holiday per year, 20% pension scheme, cycle to work scheme, free car parking and free access to the gym/leisure equipment.
I feel that I am part of an exciting and rewarding organisation that fully supports me and I have the chance to impact the lives of many students and staff.

Known bullying issues whether Staff towards Staff or Staff towards Students with known SPLDs. Management are well aware of issues and do not seem to concern themselves. Staff feel unappreciated.
Some wonderful Staff have left. Some wonderful Staff too scared to take issues forward.
It's all about numbers and is run like a business...'bums on seats' mindset-they will take anyone at the expense of others.

I wish I’d started employment at the college straight away. By far the best employer I have worked for. Everyone is friendly, chatty & supportive of each other. Teams in the college are like family. Very transparent organisation. 

Fun, friendly atmosphere. Wouldn’t want to work anywhere else even still nearly 5 years on.
