I recently had the pleasure of visiting Delaware North, and I must say that my experience was nothing short of exceptional. This hospitality workplace exceeded all my expectations, leaving me with a lasting impression and a strong desire to return.

I work in all Delaware North stadiums, so the workplaces and environments, shifts and timings of shifts vary. Shifts can be in the morning till late afternoon, or mid afternoon to late evening/midnight, so bare in mind it's unsocial hours. I like how I can have huge flexibility, choose when I want to work.

At Wembley there are concerts and a few football matches including meetings and events, the latter sporadic during September-February. You do get a packed lunch and then also a second break later on to be given hot food which is really nice food, Emirates and London Stadium you'll have a break after half-time of hot foods which is also very good.

The teams are mixed, you can work with great team workers or not so much. Managers are very fun and outgoing, no their role and are inline with rules - they are fair but are friendly too. 

Half-time's during Premier League matches are pretty tough, especially at Emirates. non-stop for 15 minutes, but once you get the hang of the fast pace you'll start to improve with handling it better the next times. You do have great managers here to who can help you be a better you.

Most enjoyable is being able to meet and make new friends along the way, meet amazing customers and having regulars, the pay is amazing, they've also helped me get home only if you can't get home/missed the last train and you have no funds (Delaware North stadium managers discretion).


While working at Delaware north companies as a team leader, I have gained knowledge in planning and organising skills to run the store, my leadership skills to manage a team of staff, decision making skills to manage stock, persuasiveness when dealing with customers and the ability to cooperate with a wide range of people have also been improved.

While working here I have gained a Good customer service, for instance, friendly and polite, and puts the customer first; it is very important in creating loyal customers. Dealing tactfully with customer concerns. Customer complaints and queries have helped me in problem solving and communication skills. Commercial awareness is also sometimes referred to as customer or business awareness, and any work experience is a great opportunity to develop it. Working under pressure, I have to stay calm and keep smiling as a big queue built up at the checkout that I am working in. Working in a busy team. A supportive team attitude on the workplace helps to create a good atmosphere for customers. 
It has helped me by being responsible, reliable and trustworthy, such as self-management. Good self-management involves being punctual, flexible, getting work done on time, and being willing to improve your own performance and made me cultural awareness.  It has improved my numeracy from giving customers the correct change to stocktaking. 




The structure of a work day goes like this: 

Pre-Pre Match where I count stocks of products and also get ready to serve customers for Pre-Match. 
Pre-Match I serve customers refreshments before they enter the game - refreshments being Beers, Ciders, Wines and Food. 
When 25 minutes into the match, I pre-pour drinks before the Halftime to ensure that the customers get their drinks quick as they would be craving it straight after the halftime, to ensure that queues are not too long and to ensure that potential conflict between both teams does not occur within the queues. 

I've learned how to use a Kiosk but most importantly learned how to work with Team Mates, especially difficult ones. As it's always about getting the work done without harming anyone emotionally or physically. I've also learned how to manage my work life, school life and social life around each other effectively. 

The workplace culture is regularly communicated, reminding myself and my colleagues of the image we are presenting towards the customers. 

The hardest part of the job is handling rowdy customers, because of the intensity of their rowdiness when they've been intoxicated but the most enjoyable would be getting food, and also serving on the tills.

I was first being sent to a group interview with people that had applied for a wide range of jobs at Delaware north. The person leading the interview seemed to not know or care who had applied for which role and in the end simply hired everyone that showed up. 

 After over an hour of going through their job unspecific online training I had to find out that almost nothing was as mentioned on their website.

The shift bidding seems to be a mix between 'if you're lucky it shows on the online roster' where instead of having to accept or decline an offered shift you're just expected to be there. Writing them days prior to inform that you cannot attend a specific date can lead to be marked down as a "no show" and causes a lot of stress for both sides it seems.

The stated pay on the website is misleading.

The work itself can be fun thanks to the people you work with, but it's very fast paced at times. Get ready for aching feet if you're not used to standing for running around for hours without being able to sit down.

Noone is really tracking when or if you take you 20min  break it seems, at least the kitchen staff just seems to vanish from time to time. 

The promised benefits have yet to be received.

I tend to work mainly match days mainly at weekends when Derby are at home with the occasional midweek fixture. My role is a food runner, which mainly involves bringing food orders through from the kitchen to the waiting staff at tables to serve the customers. We also need to keep on top of refreshments such as tea and coffee and make sure the coffee machine is regularly refilled. During the match itself, we tend to polish the cutlery after they have been washed. 

This role was my first job and taught me what it meant to feel part of a team and a collective goal and how to get along with more senior staff. Due to the length of time I have been doing the role, I have on occasion been asked to act as a team leader to help newer and temporary agency staff get more used to food running. I have made some good friends in my 2 years as part of this company.

Keeping up the pace in a high pressure environment during the peak of serving the 3 courses can sometimes prove to be stressful, but is an ultimately rewarding and enjoyable experience which has persuaded me to prolong my stay and aspire towards more regular work.

A typical day consists of: counting stock, refiling supplies, counting money into the till, preparing food, serving customers, preparing for half-time, 20 minutes of intense serving, then cleanup.

As far as learning goes, learning how to use a till in a fast and skillful way was improved, team communication, taking leadership skills and working effectively was all improved.

Management were very concise to their jobs, making sure everything was perfect and everything was good, but we always seemed to run out of stock, swapped team leaders every week and never had pure consistency.

The co-workers changed weekly and most are untrained, young and have a lack of knowledge of the job at hand, so it was my job to train them and help with anything they got stuck with.

The hardest part of the job was the fast paced environment and the fear of typing in something wrong on the till in the mayhem, which could, if not noticed, be a pain to sort out.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the ability to take charge of the situation and help my co-workers, I strive to lead and this job gives me that opportunity.

Catering company for Emirates stadium.

A typical day at work entails preparing and storing food, stock checking at the end of the day and counting change at the end of till shifts.
I learned how to work in a team, orgainsing and assigning fellow employees to different tasks and making sure that everything was running smoothly.
Co workers in the food preparation area allowed to socialise while preparing food as long as everything gets done, friendly area, mostly young employees in concession stands with more exprienced employees in higher up positions.
Hardest part of the job would be the fast pace of sales, making sure you have all the products the customer has asked for and sharing coffee/drinks machines with coworkers to supply all customers with what they need.
I enjoyed stockchecking the most as we were able to see how much money made and how much of a single product sold.

Get to work, change into the provided uniform. After that find your designated work station and and wait for the manager to arrive. Once manager arives, team brief begins. The tea, breafieng informs us on the attendance of the fans for the day (Estimate), we are informed of the selling targets and the rules for selling alcohol. Once briefing is finished we cash the tills (put the money inside the tills) and wait for the doors to open. 

After the event finishes we clean the surroundings and cash the tills. After all of that is done we are free to leave.

Co-workers are helpful and fun to be around. Management is relaxed but always on point when it comes to meeting targets. Hardest part of the Job  is probably not to pour hot water on yourself when tryng to serve Tea. As for the most enjoyable part it must be the lunch break and free hot food.

As leader of my team I am responsible for the performance of service and food delivery, with always trying to go beyond the customer’s expectation and to create special experiences for all our guests. I’m currently working in the prestigious stadiums such as Wembley, Emirates and Olympic Park for events such as Super bowl, football matches and more. This has mainly helped me to develop working under pressure, leadership and problem solving as issues occur on a daily basis. Main roles are:
•	Provision and quality of stock
•	Manage, brief and motivate staff (every shift)
•	Provide fast and effective service to clients
•	Provide quality to client meeting health and safety standards
•	Make sure the kiosk (store) is presentable and safe environment to work in
•	Handle transaction, milking tills
•	Complete important paperwork
•	Work with other members of the stadium (team leaders, managers, technicians)
•	Waste management
