Denbighshire County Council is a fantastic employer. I have been here for over 15 years and worked hard to progress into numerous roles within my department. The culture overall is very good and it makes it a great organisation to work for. The senior leadership team is approachable and transparent which helps. I enjoy my job and the additional benefits in terms of flexible and agile working, pension, generous annual leave and option to purchase more leave helps me manage my work life balance.

Wonderful colleagues.   However, career progression is dependant on who you know not what you know.   There is a culture of bullying by management and also the same management will cover their own underperformance by blaming others.  There is a lot of red tape to jump through and innovation is not encouraged.  There is minimal training on the job and no mentoring.  I was left on my own to learn a completely new piece of software as well as teach myself what I should be doing.    Work itself was interesting but self taught by reaching out to external colleagues in other authorities.  The hardest part of the job was dealing with jnr and snr managment and their ability to take no responsibiity for anything and yet claim any advancement as their own.

Management of this company have no qualifications for there role, especially street.. really needs an idipendant company to review the situation... management also dont play by there rules and the unions are on side with the council management as they don't want to rock the boat..high paid jobs and role are just dished out to there family or friends... management take them selves out of the pay grading system and boost there own wages up very often,which is tax payers money, they waist money on many things just to get there budget for next year,even if it takes skipping materials to make room on the yard

Taking minutes, diary management, typing reports, creating spreadsheets, liaison internally and externally, checking timesheets and expenses claims, attending meetings, supporting admin team.

Learned how to work independently and trust my own judgement.

Had two great managers, very supportive , work life balance very good, felt very supported during illness and stressful times.Some higher management only interested in numbers. Very busy, pretty high pressure. 

Co-workers - most great, hard working lovely people but some wouldn't give them the time of day if I had a choice - lazy and unproductive. 

Hardest part of the job - doing the work in allotted hours 
Best part - being part of an organisation that really does care for its employees.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Management could not run a bath,bulling, don't listen to the work force when there is a problem,no confidentiality,treat you like your just a number.

REFUSE MANAGEMENT ,as stated above 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work it's self and work colleagues are fine it's the management that don't care as long as the rounds get done.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The work was not stressful but management made it impossible for me to stay.

From when you opened the doors you had no idea what the day would bring, from bins not being collected to how do I rid my house of it's ghost.

I have learned a lot from working with Denbighshire County Council, from Cataloguing to Universal Credit and Council Tax Systems.

The Management like any big company needs to listen to the Front line staff more often, they think as long the heads of service are happy everyone is.

The most enjoyable part of my job is when a Customer comes up to you and thanks you profusely about something at the end of the day is your job.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Pension scheme & job safety. When you work within a county council if you are made redundant for any reason they will strive to find another suitable job for you within your local council

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
As a TA it was the low pay. The job is a vocation rather than a career.

Good. Supportive & all inclusive regardless of ethnicity or orientation

Always busy & varied. A more structured morning with a varied afternoon

Despite the recent backlash and criticism Denbighshire Council are getting currently, I’ve personally had no issues with management / other staff members. It’s a very friendly and supportive environment / community feel where no 2 days are rarely the same - there’s a lot of work to be done however management are so understanding and again extremely supportive towards staff. Working for Denbighshire Council is definitely one of if not the best workplaces I’ve had throughout my career history. Workplace culture is great too, everyone is treated fairly and well respected. 

I worked in Denbighshire Education Department for 2 years. The management was not organised or fair. A number of staff complained and/or left following unsatisfactory experiences with management and complaints not being escalated. I now work for a different local authority where the environment is completely contrasting and innovative. Denbighshire is old fashioned and very much "who you know" not "what you know". I would not recommend this employer, especially the education department.

The team you work with and empathy with the residents is very rewarding.

Not a lot of support from managment.

Work environment is ok, they have very strong views on equality & diversity

Arrive do handover, sign in and start your calls
