Gino-D'acampo-Restaurant

In my experience it was not nice to work at Gino Restaurant. I had to put 1 star as I have experienced a lot of stress, anxiety, discrimination and bullying while there, otherwise would of been more stars. 

Very discriminating FOH management. Somehow expression Grey Area was used there a lot, but in my opinion their management style was one big Grey Area. Firstly looking after their Italian staff and giving them more hours. Promised me full time when hired, then issued zero hours contract, then reduced my hours to 26h per week. That’s not full time! The Italian staff still had 40h+ , how was that fair? Always speaking in Italian and made me feel isolated as I was not Italian, even if I started conversation in English, they very soon changed it into Italian, so I didn’t understand. When I asked to speak in English on a staff briefing so I could also understand , one manager in particular given me a remark that ‘He could speak in Polish if I want’. Where did that came from, so rude. I was not Polish and don’t understand Polish, all I asked for to speak in English so I also understand, otherwise what’s the point of me being in the briefing that is held in Italian, I don’t understand anyway what they say :(

I left and that’s fine, it just wast not very nice for me to be discriminated against and bullied. End of the day I was there to work, not to be harassed. 

With more professional FOH management, my experience could have been completely different, as I actually liked my job, and the restaurant itself was very beautiful and most of the staff also very nice. Management let me down :( Maybe it is Italian management style, I don’t know, wasn’t for me anyway.

The positives: 
You get to meet Gino D’acampo in real life
There are some very nice people working there (most of the Italian staff members are also very nice)
Decent pay for the industry, holiday, pension etc
Free meals on shifts
Company benefits, including discounts at their sister Restaurant Brands and also 30% discount at all Next shops when show your payslip 
Restaurant itself is very nicely done and looks beautiful 
Working for such big brand is good for CV

** sadly more benefits if you are Italian

The worst employer I have ever experienced.

Constantly violating the Employment law and employees rights.

Not paid my overtime hours.
You are paid only until 10 PM. And it is impossible to get all the work done by 10 PM, especially on weekends when the restaurant is very busy and the kitchen closes at 11 PM. So you are supposed to perfectly clean the whole kitchen with all appliances and utensils in no time completely alone. Usually, you end up working until 1 AM to get all the work done. For me, this meant working an extra 28 hours for nothing every month. When I complained about it, I was told I must work faster. When I worked faster (to make it in the paid hours), I was reproved that I did not do the cleaning properly.
Bartenders and chefs have told me they have the same experience - regularly having to work for nothing after their regular (paid) working hours to get the job done.

Not gave me all my tips. 
Even though the tips were listed in my payslip, so I paid tax from it, I did not obtain all of it. Usually in the payslip were listed and taxed tips worth of £80 but they gave me only £50. This was happening every single month.

No lunch breaks.
Not even on 12-hour shifts, though it is mandatory by the law. Don’t get me wrong, you get a free lunch/dinner there, but you have to eat it in 5 minutes and get back to work. 

Incompetent management.
Management was incompetent and not helpful at all. When I had any problem or question, I had to figure it out all by myself. The managers would tell me they can't help me.

The best you can do is to avoid this company.

It's a place blessed with good people, but is managed by terrible management. There is a lot of politics among the management which often negatively impact the employees. 

If you are looking for a career advancement, or a pay rise. This is not the place for you. There is no incentives, or any benefits for the staff. And often times there isn't even food provided for the staff, which is a bare minimum expected when you are working 8+ hours in a restaurant. If a sensible manager is not on the floor, there won't be anyone to get you a break during your long shift.

There is no career progression or advancement often times, because the company is very much profit oriented to the extent they can't even afford to pay anything more than the minimum wage. Often the managerial positions are given to the friends of the higher management, and the company has very much a nepotistic behavior when it comes to career progression. 

Furthermore, the tips you make as cash is shared among the employees in a senseless manner. Often you will be overworked and abused, if you are someone who is capable. The floor will always be understaffed, and the rota is prepped in a senseless manner which leads to you being overworked and abused on a daily basis.

This is an experience of someone who has worked in the company for 2.5 years, and who has worked in all the departments of the company. I would recommend this place for someone who is looking for a part time job, but if you are someone who is looking for a full time. Run the other way. Know your self worth. Thank you 😊

Was left real disappointed in this work place. Especially with the management. I had signed a 40hr week contract and barely did 15 hours for the week. Got messed around completely. Asked for my contract as it was just unacceptable at one point, to find out they had removed my hours from my contract and changed it to 0 hours!
Make sure you keep a copy of your contract because I wish I did! 

‘ receptionist ‘ isn’t a reception job, spent most of my evenings just setting up tables and looking around, and not been spoken to in a nice way when asked to do so! They look and treat you like you’re nothing. I had all the experience they needed including being bilingual ( Italian ) but they don’t trust you what so ever and there’s so many better jobs out there where you will actually enjoy going to, nobody wants to go into work and feel disrespected for wanting to learn and do the job you signed up for which was reception!  

The management is shocking. 

From terrible management to a dirty kitchen, there is nothing good about Gino. I was promised a waitress position but started as a food runner as a trial. After absolutely horrendous few days as a food runner (the food trays were way too heavy for me, but I was willing to push through), the manager told me they actually didn't plan to make me a waitress, to which I told him I quit. I got offered a breakfast position in the end, which wasn't that bad. I was second- hand embarrassed so many times due to the lack of care from other team members, like serving cold food or management forgetting to sort things out. I would absolutely not recommend working there.

Management is extremely helpful, they train you quite well HOWEVER expect to be thrown in the deep end with hardly any experience, you learn more on the job but are expected to make little to no mistakes. 
It is extremely busy, especially during 12-5.
You do very long shifts and are often left in pain with how much walking and running you have to do alongside long tasks such as polishing 200 sets of cutlery and cleaning/ setting 30 tables every 20 minutes.
The pay doesn’t help either nothing is worth it here, I receive £4 an hour as a waitress you’re paid minimum wage for your age 

Everything put on you while other people go home and you dont get paid for the work. Missing at least five hours a week that adds up to be a loss of around £160.  I learned about how corrupt people can be. Management are not competent in the slightest. The culture seems nice but they are all just pretending  to not have a clue what's going on. Hardest part of the job is been ripped off every week. The most enjoyable part about the job is some of the people you meet but it said to think they are getting ripped off to.

It was extremely great gino is very kind and the utensills are very clean no grease anywhere on the stoves. the customers are very nice and kind they were also very patient.

Boss wasn't understanding or flexible. Also quite disorganised. It's a very stressful job with not great pay but my co workers were great. Shifts felt super long most nights and communication was often poor

decent wage, tips not always fairly shared, nice people but can be a bit clickey if you’re not italian, good training, good management, fast paced and draining sometimes like any other restaurant, but overall I had a good experience
