The day really starts off with checking phone messages/emails etc.
Planning and printing out clinic scheduled for the day. Ensuring patients are still attending their appointments with a short call reminder to patients 
Typing consultants dictated letters, sending out clinic letters to patients. 
Booking scans/bloods/x-rays before patient sees Consultant/Physician in clinic. 
I have learned a lot since working with Imperial Healthcare Trust, as your constantly being trained as there are  several courses whilst working there to enhance your job, that you can apply for.

Working in the Healthcare sector you do get to meet people of all races and ethnicities, it's so lovely to meet people from different countries, and also learn their culture. 

The hardest part of the job was keeping on top of looking after 5 Consultants at the same time. Ensuring that they were looked after in the best possible way ie organising meetings, organising clinic lists for the day, sorting out their patients queries etc before clinic day, ensuring that  patients are always satisfied with their appointments, letters etc. keeping on top of DNA's and rebooking appointments. 

The most enjoyable part of the job, was actually job Satisfaction when you know you've succeeded in completing everything for that day, and Consultants are pleased with what I achieved, and also my Manager. I would say an all round good day is when you know you've helped quite a number of patients that day, and everyone has come out of that appointment satisfied. 

Being praised and being given feedback on how I have done, is a great attribute to enhance your working life .  I enjoyed working for Imperial Healthcare Trust, hence why I stayed in one department for 23 years working for the same Consultants in the Respiratory department.

I practically ran the department to getting photocopiers fixed when they go wrong, to light fixtures (bulbs blowing), Stationery ordering ie paper, pens etc, organising meetings for Consultants on three sites.
Multitasking at every opportunity to any job given to me, and to cope also at the same time answering queries of patients enquiries/problems etc.

All in all I were able to use all my secretarial skills and more in the job that became my life.







I feel in a working environment, it is important to have a fun team to work in. I am very much a team player but am able to work independently too. I have currently transitioned form the Testing team to the Back Office team, where I am in charge of creating the Service catalogue for the project. This catalogue indicates which teams on the project are responsible for which job before and Post Go LIVE. This is a big and very challenging piece of work as I have previously worked on implementing the system through testing, build and once the system has gone LIVE. This is the first time I have had the role of setting up the Backoffice which is challenging and exciting at the same time. Management is great as I have a great understanding with my manager as to what deadlines need to be met and have a 1 to 1 every 2 weeks so that we can propose more ideas to this piece of work. My team is great to work with, we have an understanding when it comes to work. Hardest part of the job is to give training to NHS Staff as most of the time not comfortable with change, from one system to another but with time, patience and understanding, this seems to do the trick. Most enjoyable part of the job is working together and having a fun atmosphere in the office.

I work for the Health at Work department that deals with staff's welfare when it comes to protecting against infection diseases, for example, hepatitis B, C, and return to work programmes following an episode of sickness absence. My role is help to process all pre employment health questionnaires and referrals for new staff & those that have been off sick for a period of time.

I work as part of a well organised and structured department that has a team of high experienced nurses and administrators all working as a team to met goals and objectives as a whole and not on an individual basis. Hardest thing is we can't clear everyone on one day which is why we have clinics spreading out across the three hospitals that our department looks after. The most enjoyable thing is that you get to work with other departments too when it comes to make decisions that are discussed with our senior management on a daily basis

A typical same has not been same as I work and gain additional experience ans additional skills when working in different ward per shift, or between wards per shift covering for transferring of patients to other hospital including as and when care are been prioritise for safety{of patients and staffs) and care needs of patients.

I have learned that you have to continue to improve and update on your your skills, able to prioritise and think on your feet as the care needs might change. 

The hardest part of the job is that there might be shortage of staff, bank staff might struggle, make lots of phone calls and have to physically go back to actual ward to get the worked shift released or confirm for payment (when bank staff are placed or moved between wards in a single shift).  Despite, nurse bank's efforts to follow up the concern ward to release already worked shift for payment. Some ward designated person don't even respond or  the designated person is on holiday or sick leave.

I believe that for the job description for this job conflicts with my experience working at Western Eye Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital.

NHS core values are to be kind, to aspire to higher things. At my interview, I was told I could climb the ladder and have an ongoing career working for Imperial. However, I heard from the business line manager that there isn't any staff progression in my department. It was extremely demoralising to work for imperial. The workload is long and can be exhausting. The senior staff band 5 and management offered no help and would not give you any formal training on how the equipment is used.

The only good thing I would say is that the staff you're working with are some best people I ever had the privilege to work with. Management and senior staff not so much.

My daily routine is coming into work, checking my E mail, going to my wards that I am covering and following up with my current patients in my work flow and picking up any new cases that I are brought to my attention. Contacting social workers or the CCG with regards to patients waiting placements or assessments and also to be allocated to social worker. The management are supportive in my working role, co-workers are all professional and it is a great atmosphere and a great place to work.
There are times when the workload during sickness with holidays can be very demanding however this is when I  prioritize my work load to deal with the most important cases that are required to be discharged that day or the next day.
Working with a nice team of doctors and nurses as we work together to achieve the best for all our patients care needs.

Typical day at work involved arriving at front desk and answering voicemails and calls before collecting patient files to prep for nurses. I learned how to use time wisely to get things done, as a typical day can be potentially busy which results in multi-tasking quite frequently. When management first hired me I felt welcomed by their presence it was a good relationship in the end. My co-workers were very friendly we got along very well often helping each other out to get tasks done. The hardest part was time management often being distracted in not being able to get things done as often as possible. I enjoyed being around people who were very kind and compassionate often helping me when I needed it most, furthermore working in a hospital environment made be feel like I was contributing and helping those who were in extreme cases sick made me feel good about myself.

Imperial is a good place to work and improve your professional and personal skills. I have learned a lot during my time at imperial and feel it was a very helpful experience that has prepared me for the next step in my professional carrier.

Sadly it is some of the negative sides of working for imperial or nhs  which have helped me improve the most. Working long hours to reach deadlines. Having to take more responsibility and deputies for my manager, manage major projects under pressure. Take on-board areas of work which you know little about but have to learn quickly and produce high standard of work.

I guess your experience will also depends on your team and department as imperial is a very large trust.

Overall it was a stressful but definitely good learning experience that has thought me a lot.

No day is a typical day for me. My tasks would change on daily basis, however if I have to prioritise my workload then I stick to my planned day. The management in the team are extremely supportive and guide you when ask for help. The environment I work is very pressured but the staff and team make it enjoyable. Hardest part of my job is trying to keep up with all the projects, this is because the project works are moving very fast. The most enjoyable part of my job would be creating newsletters, update the internet and attending Human Resource hearings.

i manage an outpatients onclogy department. there are several clincis running at one time and sometimes patients wait a long ime which is upsetting but my team and i will inform the patients if there delays and why. I enjoy the interaction  i have with my patients and feelthat i provide them themwith good suppport and how to manage their cancer. I sometimes feel frustratedwith some of my staff particularly when one is often sick and is difficult to  understand why. W eoften have patients who come and do not have an appointment but they willstill see the doctor as they may have problems witht heur iillness. I enjoy my job and feel i povide good support for both staff and patients.
