Hours are not guaranteed this is because it a place of work where is a 0 hour contract. However I usually work 36-50 hours per week.

Fun/Stressful place to work. It is fun because of the people that you work with are easy to get along with however when it is super busy it can be stressful because everybody is rushed off their feet trying to make sure their service towards the customers is always 10/10 at all times.

A typical day at work for myself is to get into work for 08:30 to set up the coffee bar for breakfast service at 09:00. Breakfast service is from the times of 09:00-11:00. During breakfast the customers will order their food at the bar and then the kitchen will start to make the order which I will then run out to them once it is ready. At 10:00 another one or two members of staff will come in and this is for them to set up the restaurant ready for the service from 11:00-16:00. If the second staff member does come in it will be for them to either help me on the coffee bar as and when it gets busy and for them to help run the food from the kitchen. When it comes to 11:00 another two members of staff will come in. Between the four staff which had come in between 10:00 and 11:00 it will be split between them who will be a waitress/waiter and who will be on the bar with myself then finally at 12:00 the final member of staff will come in and this person will be running the food for most of service and or swap with a person on the bar. However the amount of staff per day differs depending on how busy the stadium is each day. Normally at 12:00 I usually go for my 30 minute break at the staff restaurant after my break I go back to work where I will then start to cover other member of staff breaks. Once they have all finished their breaks I would go back onto the bar which remains open until 16:30. However in the time between the end of my break and 16:00 all of the staff members that came into work after myself would have gone home however that is dependent on how busy the restaurant/bar is. After 16:30 I then have around an hour to clean down the bar of all the surfaces, cupboards, coffee machines, restock the fridges, brush the floor and then finish off by mopping the floor. Despite that depending how business is on the day I may be able to start the close earlier around 15:30 and may use other members of staff to help with stocking up the fridges. The shifts that I do I am usually the first front of house staff in then the last one to leave.

However a typical working day on a match day is completely different. The start time in which you will come into work will rarely be the same because it all goes down to what time the kick off time is for the game. Typically most of the members of staff come into work around 1 and a half hours before service. The service always will start 3 hours before the kick off time. In that time before service we make sure that all the glasses and cutlery are polished, making sure that all the bread and water (still and sparkling) are put out around 10 minutes before service so the bread doesn't start to go hard and so the water stays cool. Then when it comes to service the waiters/ waitresses will have allocated tables which they will look after for the duration of the service until kick off. During the game all the members of staff will help get all the room clean and make sure it is all set up for when the guests come back into the room at full time, after doing that we all will then have our breaks which food is provided for. Then we have a post match service which is only for an hour and is a buffet service where the guests help themselves for snacks like small pies or cakes. After that hour has passed and all the guests have left we all will then clean down the room again and then start to set up the room again for the restaurant which includes relaying all the tables with napkins and cutlery because the Red Cafe is open to the public for non match days.

Whilst working at Manchester United there are plenty of opportunities to progress for example I have had the honour of being room supervisor for a vast majority of the games in my second season on match days. Despite that on non match days I have the opportunity to put my name down on some courses to better myself. However the courses get full pretty quickly so I have only done the one at the moment which is an important course for me which is emotional intelligence which showed me how to talk to people dependent on how their emotional behaviour is and how they react to certain things. This has helped me a lot through working at the red cafe during the week because members of staff maybe happy one day then upset the next so you will need to alter how you speak to them if you can visually recognise that they are happy or upset. And applying myself forward for these courses has shown to my manager and duty managers that I am willing to work hard to better myself.

Manchester United have an ALL RED ALL EQUAL rule which means everybody gets treated the same no matter what race you are or what culture you are from they will always cater to help each members of staffs needs.

The hardest part of my job on a non match day is helping to the manage the staff around the area I am working on. This is because I do not have a team leader/ supervisor or manager title it is hard for the staff to listen to me however my manager expects me to make sure that everyone is doing their jobs correctly. My manager expects this because I am in work the most out of all the staff so I know how things work on all areas of the cafe.

The hardest part of my job on a match day. I do not really have one because my role is different and everything is run smoothly and their are more staff to help each other out throughout the shifts.

The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing a smile on the customers face after they have had a good service this goes for non match day and match days. This is because it shows that I have done my job correctly and put the guests first at all times. I have had one specific time where a family had come over from Australia and after the service on a match day they had said that is their best service they have ever received.

I want to start out by saying that whilst I wouldn't describe my time at United as a particularly pleasant one, it needs to be said that I believe many doors opened for me and my career with a name as big as United on my CV. I am proud of the work I made and I understand that the exposure and experience working for the club provided is unmatched. Some designers will go their entire careers without having the chance to reach an audience as vast and diverse as the fans of MUFC and I feel extremely fortunate to have achieved that with my first full-time position. 

However, as this was also my first job out of University, I was also nieve to the fact that the pressure, long hours and low pay were some of the most unfair in the industry. In my very first week I was asked to work unpaid overtime, and  I had my first 9pm finish in my third week at the club. It is the culture in the office that 5pm means little to nothing and it is an expectation that you complete regular unpaid overtime. It's bittersweet that everyone in the department did this, so whilst you were never on your own working into the night and you didn't feel singled out to do a higher workload than anyone else, you never feel in a position to be able to turn overtime down or insist that you only work your contracted hours. On average, I worked around 10-15 hours of overtime each week, which if you were to calculate the pay on an hourly basis would put you as making less than minimum wage. There were occasions where members of the team were still working at midnight, and other than verbal thanks you wouldn't receive anything for your hard work.

It's undoubtedly a fact that everyone at United works hard, but there is a sense that those higher up the ladder don't appreciate how little those starting out get paid, and whilst the demands of the job may be worth it for what they make, it definitely isn't for interns.

What made the job more bearable however is that save for the standard of a few bad eggs, the majority of people are lovely and easy to get on with. There are also some very talented people in the company who are a pleasure to rub shoulders with and there is a lot to learn from them. I have in fact remained in contact with some of my past co-workers, however they've informed me that because of a string of recent resignments that the department is now thoroughly understaffed and problems with work load and long hours is only getting worse. Clearly this is something that needs to be fixed before the more senior members leave and they're left with no work force at all. 

Mandatory overtime is in the contract.

Working time regulations is also non applicable as in the contract.

Told last minute what overtime they need from you i.e.. 3 days notice for a week of 12 hours shifts.

Work and life balance is non existent, you cannot book weekends off even if you're going on an actual vacation.

Supporters receive emails from the club regarding games on sale but you don't get told anything, lack of communication.

Processes change every other day, and you're expected to remember everything by heart as they got rid of the knowledge needed.

Unsociable working hours.

Told you should expect to work 1 in 3 weekends, ends up being 2 out of every three.

No room for progression.

Poor training, you receive no coaching after your poor "training" to ease you into the role.

Your expected to bail out the departments that get paid a lot more than you such as operation.

Constantly cold calling supporters who have viewed or looked at something on the website within the last 3 years or more and have visited the megastore (even if you didn't ask for this as a supporter) - This can literally be all day everyday for weeks on end.

When calling on the outbound system you can call any supporter so you may call international when their time is early hours of the morning, which has happened.

Monitors are faulty as they constantly lower their height on their own, and the chairs have faulty rubber padding on the arm rest and were coming away, causing cuts and sores, which had been mentioned previously to no avail.

Outbound and inbound sales with no commission - even though hospitality receive tips and executive support receive commission for their role. 

You have to ask to go onto the break list, which isn't always monitored, to then only have to wait at least an hour to have your break and sometimes not managing to even have both breaks that you're legally entitled to.

This position was only for Match Days

Typical day consisted of arriving to the stadium 2.5 hours before scheduled kick off time. This allowed us to be briefed on the days game. The brief consisted of how many away fans were expected at the stadium, future fixture dates, potential notes for todays fixture i.e. possible crowd trouble, extra security, safety drills. Would then collect my jacket and proceed to my post awaiting the opening of the turn styles

I learnt how to deal with different people during my time there. As there is a lot of emotion at football matches people can be difficult to deal with. The addition of alcohol does not help so it is important to know when/if any situation should be escalated to security staff. It is important not to do this so quickly as this escalation would usually resort to the person being ejected from the stadium. To escalate a situation to security staff is not far on any persons involved before trying to deal with it yourself as you are robbing them of the event they paid good money to see

Management interactions on a 1 to 1 basis were few and far between. Management would only usually be seen at the aforementioned briefing, or in passing in the concourses of the stadium

There was also limited interactions with co-workers. As each person was responsible for the own section it was rare for staff to cross over. 

The hardest part of the job was dealing with drunk and irate spectators who could not be reasoned with and only wanted to cause trouble. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was making someone's first trip to the stadium a little bit more special by going the extra mile and showing them to their seat, the toilets, food kiosk etc.

Working as a trainer in Manchester has been a fulfilling and enriching experience. The city's vibrant atmosphere, combined with a genuine passion for sports and fitness, creates an ideal environment for a trainer.

The diverse clientele in Manchester has provided me with the opportunity to work with individuals from various backgrounds and fitness levels. Tailoring training programs to meet the unique needs and goals of each client has been both challenging and rewarding. The enthusiasm and dedication of the people here make the job truly enjoyable.

Moreover, Manchester United's rich sporting culture adds an extra layer of excitement to the training sessions. The energy at the training facilities is infectious, and being a part of this environment has inspired me to continuously strive for excellence in my role.

A typical day at Manchester United involves a team briefing with the Cleaning Manager, we get allocated our teams, collect all the equipment and get started on the seat clean where we check that the seats are clean and safe. After the seat clean we have a half an hour break and then we get sent to our section of the stadium, I work on away stand with the away fans, and we clear up any bottles and litter, clean up any spillages, clear out kiosks and move bins away from the stadium. The most enjoyable part of the job is the independence as we have supervisors but they know we know what to do so they leave us to it. Also, I like my co-workers because they are all friendly and helpful and the flexibility of the job was useful because it fit in with college. I learnt to be confident in my ability to carry out tasks, be calm and helpful when helping visitors with problems, I learnt excellent communication skills as I had to communicate with different members of staff and different visitor types. The hardest part of the job is when the stadium gets very busy and there is a lot to do in a small amount of time. For example, on Soccer aid we had many complaints about spillages but we couldn't get to the right away because we were so busy. Management was excellent because my manager was always there to help and always briefed us on any changes.

I worked in both area in the waiting staff and kiosk assistant.
Waiting staff is simply waiter/waitress job where you take orders, serve orders and clean customers' plates. 

Overall it is okay good, the pay I get is £6.70 per hour. During my waitress period, the bad thing was you do not always get tips and sometimes they send you home early. You come in for 4 hours and to be sent home which is rather annoying. 

Kiosk is much better because the duration is specified so I can do after plans etc without worrying finishing early or late. Kiosk is simply like mcdonalds server which I think it is more easier than waiting on staff. Also Kiosk get to handle money which if you fancy this skill then this is for you. 

Overall they give you food package: 1x sandwich, 1x waterbottle, 1x chocolate bar, 1x piece of fruit and lastly 1x crisp. Nothing luxurious but it is adequate. Sometimes I see people take 2 fruits instead, of course it is not allowed but obviously they do not care. 

I only work on match days, they do provide you to work on normal days but I don't know how many people compete for it.

One last thing is that, when you off shift, you're stuck with million fans in traffic to get to home on bus etc. Luckily I just walk home!

10% Discount in the stores, very low discount. Even my student discounts in most stores can be 20%.

A typical day involved signing in, obtaining your lunch and going to your allocated work place for that day (Usually the same place, but this can occasionally change should they be short of staff elsewhere). Once you get to your work place you'll be told what to do by the AMAZING management (they are much better than everywhere else I have worked). Once the customers come in it's just a matter of routine until the end of your shift. Once you work one match, the next is usually the same. 

The hardest part of the job was standing up for the nine hours you may work. Also, as a kitchen runner, the heat and humidity of the kitchen was hard, as there was a constant thirst that the bottle of water in your lunch seemed to do little in the way of satisfying that thirst. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is the management and staff. I'm friends with all staff and management I meet, and the banter in the kitchen with the chefs had almost everyone smiling.

With it being Manchester United, a team culture was always apparent meaning everyone had to work together in order for the customers to have the best experience possible. We would start with a briefing about the days tasks at hand. i would then set up my hospitality box for the 8 people who were attending the match. I had to check all the cutlery and plates were laid out correctly along with a stocked fridge. To make the processes quicker I would work with collegeues helping each other out in setting up and serving the customers. 

Once the customers arrived I would take there food and drinks orders so they were able to relax and enjoy their day as soon as possible. After there meals had finished I would clean the table and allow the customers to enjoy the rest of their day by getting them drinks and helping them have the best possible experience.

Expect to meet great customers and be surrounded by a great team of fellow workers. However, you will never get accurate pay (and it's also minimum wage), breaks are non-existant and you are expected to be on your feet for 8 hours solid whilst supervisors sit around laughing and joking, shout at you for situations they don't understand (as they're never involved with running the place) and generally treat everyone like they are lower than them (even though I have years more experience in hospitality than they've been alive). They do ok general training, so good opportunity for young inexperienced people wanting to casually work outside college/uni but hours are unreliable due to being home match games. Get treated like a herd animal but if you say yes sir no sir enough to floor managers you may possibly be in with the chance of getting non-match work.
