I worked at one of the company's largest marinas as a seasonal temp and my experience of working here was ok but often had faults. The pay was okay for the job and all the uniform I would need was provided. However, my main issue with working here was the lack of training. I understand that I was a seasonal worker and was only there for the summer, however, the training was dreadful. 
From my first week, I was expected to answer phone calls in the office and deal with customer queries on matters of which I had no knowledge of. As I could pretty much never deal with any of the queries or phone calls, I was constantly consulting permanent members of staff for help, and the staff there often gave poor assistance with this. I felt this made the marina and myself look very unprofessional and incapable. 
The majority of the training given was the bare minimum, such as online health and safety and equipment training, all of which was self-explanatory, and clearly just so the manager could tick a box. This training I felt had little relevance to the actual job I was doing.
The work was mainly outdoors, which was nice during the summer, and some members of staff were friendly.  
On the whole, the company really needs to consider redesigning the training for particular job roles here. And also encourage their permanent members of staff to be of more assistance with the seasonal workers. 

The structure of the business is very old school which some people don't mind, however I do! The structure of the company is to benefit the people who are above you. no matter how many things you have to do in that day if something pops up, you have to drop everything and do the thing you have been asked to do. There is no overtime pay so if you stay an hour - hour and half after you are contracted to finish. You don't get paid for it. Sick days are statutory pay meaning that it isn't sick pay. The salary's are a joke and would look elsewhere if you get the chance

Nice marinas of a good standard, although working in the yards can be hard due to a lack of suitable  equipment which can be old, poorly maintained and minimum staffing levels. Training is good but high staff turnover due to poor pay for the type of work. Area management lack forethought and planning ability when marinas are struggling to complete jobs due to lack of staff.

The job itself is a good one but mdl as a company do NOT value there staff there's no loyalty. The pay is rubbish and the company do not even bother to review it and 1% rise a year in april. Managers treat their staff like dog poo on their shoes shouting and screaming at them infront of customers and staff.

Also some of their yards have minimal staff who are not trained on any machinery. 

Low staff low wages low morale

I have enjoyed working for MDL for over 12 years.  A supportive company that appreciates hard work and a willingness to learn. Have seen many management teams over the years and its pleased to note these changes have not been detrimental to the core business, its staff and customers

Management - disrespectful and arrogant with no vision or initiative to learn.
Work place culture is full of distrust and no vision.
Hardest part of the job is supporting ignorant managers hogherd from different industries and consider they know it all.
Most enjoyable part is working with customers from different nations. 

Very varied work including maintenance, customer service in a leiusure environment, company is always keeping up to date with modern technology in the office and industry leading knowledge and staff are able to progress within the company, if they work hard and want to

Worked for mdl for 4 years or more , was a very good place to work and very fun , then the manager changed and everything went down hill , the marina was a small place so not many staff , it got very clicky and back stabby towards the end of my employment 

There is no real structure to the business and no space for planning ahead. Everything is done on a ad hoc basis and left until it can be left no longer.  

Its ok but has high turnover of staff  because of low wages. Not very supportive of staff.
Lots of people use it as a stepping stone to other marinas, sort of entry level company then move to bettee one.
