You will never find anywhere more amazing people to work with than Newham College colleagues! Worked there for a good few years and can only say, my colleagues were like my work family and my mentors - amazing, amazing people! Students were full of life and appreciative - made my job enjoyable and rewarding. Shame management was very much out of touch, and applied a bossing culture towards lecturers, which made the job unpleasant. There was no life-work balance. Loaded with unnecessary tasks to satisfy my unpleasant manager. Always had to stay till late. Salary was a pittance. Managers though, got and still get paid a lot more for doing little or nothing, starting with the Principal who is paid more than the Prime Minister?!! Most of HR are useless. Would have never left if it was not for the bossing unappreciative culture from management. Will always be grateful to my colleagues for the unique warmth and support they provided! Would return to teach at Newham College in a heart beat if Heads of Schools were replaced with hard working and appreciative people!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The health & social team was very supportive and was dedicated to student success and developing teaching practices. The department was led by an amazing manager and was so professional, approachable and was able to motivate the team

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The wider college targets completely disregarded teacher's mental health and undermined their professional capacity to make autonomous decisions.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Within the department, it was very support.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Other than the teaching, the type of students we had were very challenging and the college was not set up in terms of specialist training to be able to make a difference to a child's potential.

Monitoring boiler plants air handling units and space temperatures using a Trend Control System. I learnt a tremendous amount over my years at the college from general maintenance to attending many courses gaining further education.

I mainly managed myself and from time to time reporting to a Line Manager. I had a working relationship with Clients, Contractors and Colleagues within the College.

I worked with a large number of people who I felt I got along with and had a good working relationship.

The hardest part of the job was keeping on top of requirements to keep the Colleges functioning due vandalism and breakdowns.

The most enjoyable part of the job was being a part of an organisation and having the opportunity of gaining further education.

- Everyday is not the same day, as Student Ambassadors are involved in many projects with NUC, such as, improving the structure, handling complaints and providing solutions, helping students with their research and finding materials, providing presentations, attending open days and marketing events.

- My communication skills have greatly developed and I've learnt to create and write contents of leaflets and created own design on Microsoft words. 

- Students Ambassador is all about team work. We work together with the admin staff and the marketing staff. 

- Learnt to carry out individual projects for example my responsibility involves day to day admin stuff and updating constitutions, application forms and other documents, updating facebook page, and many other projects that I carried out while working as a Student Ambassador.

Excellent career incentives for staff.
The nature of my degree course has prepared me for this position. It involved a great deal of independent research, requiring initiative, self-motivation and a wide range of skills. For one course, Systems Analyst, an understanding of the different systems within an industry was essential. I found this subject very stimulating.
I am a fast and accurate writer, with a keen eye for detail and I should be very grateful for the opportunity to progress my Cyber analytical skills. I am able to take on the responsibility of this position immediately, and have the enthusiasm and determination to ensure that I make a success of it.

I worked as lecturer for three years between 2012 to 2015. A typical day involved teaching students, updating the teaching and learning folders, managing the curriculum, designing resources and dealung with any student issues. I learned the importance of working in a team. The workplace culture was good as I was treated fairly by allowing my voice to be heard, manafer was supportive and encouraging and we always made time for meals out which made our team closer. The hardest part of thejob was that I wanted a permanent role as I was on a fixed-term contract but these roles were not being offered at the time. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with others who cared about the students and helping them to achieve.

What is the best part of working at the company?
A college, pretending to be a college.  Truth be told its a holding bay for immigrants getting free education that leads to no actual qualification.  Just a way of staying in the country. 
Fail a student under assessment,  and you are branded a racist.  
Out of control and lost its way.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Race card being played by students when they fail

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Isolated. Thrown under a bus by middle management 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Waiting for  trouble to start,  excuses from students about lateness and bad work.  No discipline and unqualified members of staff

	Assessed staff performance against established KPIs and carried out performance appraisal to track productivity. Conducted detailed analysis to determine at-risk learners and provided advice to in-house or external support agencies.
	Chaired regular team meeting, discussing the at-risk learners and reviewing improvements across each faculty area.
	Provide pastoral support including setting personal learning plans for tutees
	Steered efforts towards monitoring and improving disciplinary contracts and records, as well as liaising with young and vulnerable children pre-16 to enhance retention, behavior and achievement.

I was headhunted through an agency to work at Newham College. At first it was great; the pay was excellent, as well as my team until they left. I was then based at East-Ham and everything changed. I gained 3 years experience working for a FE college and had a great deal of responsibility in running my own courses. The downfall was that I hoped to become permanent, but was only given fixed -term contracts which did not suit my needs. If you are looking for experience, you will not be disappointed. As a company, they need to improve their CPD courses for teaching staff as I have never received a certificate and the courses were not useful.

Generally, the college management have not beens strong in appreciating the work done by other colleagues . Career progression is almost impossible within the college, so apprentices are let down and promises are a bunch of hocus pocus.  Lack of interaction between the managements and business support staff. Staff development a show is put down to make it seem that managers are coming down to our level.  Senior personal can be stuck up and rude to other members of staff. Doesn't help with staff morale. Only during Ofsted, when they pretend to make an effort.
