This job role changes from day to day, and ward to ward. A typical day will include monitoring patients vital signs, taking care of the personal hygeine of patients and making sure all documentation is up to date and acurate. 
I have learnt how to identify when a patient is declining in health and aid in preventing any further decline. I have also learnt how to deal with and de-escalate extremely confused or aggressive people and have great skills in time mangement and using my own initiative.
On many ocassions I have had to deal with emergnecy situations calmly, effectivley and patiently.
The hardest part of the job can be keeping a smile even when you are dealing with death, however I have managed to do this on countless occassions for the sake of the other patients, my collegues and the relatives that all need our support.
The most enjoyable parts of the job can be when your patient smiles happily because you have made them more comfortable, or helped take away their stress in some way and when you see a patient leave hospital well again, there is nothing quite so satisfying.

I’ve worked for the trust for 3 years, my day-to-day involves a lot of fire fighting and things are difficult since covid with lots of backlogs and pressure so it can be quite stressful but my team are amazing and very supportive, I also believe management are passionate about getting things better for all patients in Cornwall. They are trying their best in extremely difficult circumstances. 
The culture within my team is great, really encouraging and supportive. I feel valued and my contributions are encouraged. Although that’s not the case across the trust unfortunately some teams are struggling with this. The hardest part of my job is relying on other people to get back to me and to want to change things for improvement. Unfortunately because the pressure is on their isn’t necessarily the time to focus on improvements.
Overall I really like working here, the majority of people work hard to make a difference and that’s where I get job satisfaction from. 

A fast paced, challenging job but it is highly rewarding and there is a thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere. There have been lots of times I have been pushed out of my comfort zone but I have been very supported and this has enabled me to grow. I have been given fantastic training opportunities and there is a variety of training available to staff at all times.   The training isn't always advertised to you so you have to be proactive and find it but there is always plenty available.This is a great place to work for personal development. I work with a fantastic team and work collaboratively with many others who are also very friendly and helpful. There are lots of great onsite facilities. There is a shop and lots of nice places to eat. There is onsite parking available as well as bus stops. They really look after your wellbeing and there are lots of free resources to look after you. The pay is fair and the annual leave and pension is fantastic.

My direct colleague, without her support my whole experience working at RCHT would have been rated as a one star.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No support from immediate management team.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Had moved office three times within the first few months of working for the trust, each time the atmosphere was not good as we had to share with teams who had not had to share before.
It felt like our team wasn’t important.  No one bothered to introduce themselves to me and no one did a welfare check when I was on long term sick following hip surgery.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I was working from home so little or no contact with the rest of the team and absolutely no contact from management.  
We were always very busy and understaffed.

RCHT is a busy hospital with several outlying hospital/units so I can be working in a different unit everyday. Our ultrasound lists can be mixed or one type of examination depending on where you are working. The changes of unit and examination makes it a very interesting Trust to work for. We are a good close knit team exchanging ideas and experience both with qualified Sonographer and trainees. 
The best thing about by job as a sonographer is the interaction with the patients/customers the worst is giving bad news.
Our immediate team lead is very approachable and the higher management supportive.

Depending on your banding, it’s a pretty safe secure and stress free ( sometimes) job
You will work hard for little financial reward, the NHS runs on goodwill I’d say.. lots of unhappy staff members and very low morale.
Can be busy, can also be boring.

I had a variety of roles during my time at the hospital, some more fulfilling than others.  I learnt about persistence and perseverance to get the job done.

I found many of the people I worked with highly skilled and motivated, but the constraints of the NHS and the lack of trust and teamwork sometimes made it really difficult to get the job done.

The hardest part of the job was dealing with the red tape and regulations, the best part was working with some amazing people and learning how to motivate people in difficult circumstances,

The Research Department at RCHT in Truro could be the most rewarding place to work, however it is grossly understaffed and the most stressful place I have worked. The three top senior management team have lead a bullying culture. A very new lead has started and time will tell if she has the ability to change things. The department operates against many of the values of RCHT and speaking up is not an option. I sorely hope things do change for the sake of all the staff.

Really rewarding job but healthcares are not appreciated enough. They are doing half the jobs the nurses should be with no thanks at all. Management are poor and not supportive during times of bereavement. In my opinion it’s probably just this hospital not the NHS in general as I have heard many positives about other Trust’s and even another hospital within the same trust, but this one has too many staff who need a change, who are no longer in the job because they care.
