Ten-Health-and-Fitness

PROS:
- company provides you with free Pilates training of a very high quality, and will get you started in the industry even with very little experience 
- colleagues and team (bar senior management) are generally extremely friendly & supportive, with lots of potential to network through the circle of care and boost each others skills and business 
- free Pilates classes and CPDs 

CONS:
- extremely financially undervalued, instructors are paid less than London living wage per class if not hitting commission targets 
- speaking of commission targets these are impossible to make, as they do not have enough clients/classes at some studios to fill your schedule
- in order to meet your KPI targets they will therefore make you travel all over London to cover classes at different studios with little to no warning, and don’t offer to expense travel 
- senior management has no consideration for employees health and work life balance and will often pressure them into doing overtime shifts leading to extremely long and demanding working hours 
- overtime shifts are only way to earn decent money, even these are less than industry standard pay
- because it is an average facility at a premium price, clients can be very demanding of the trainers as this is where they expect to get their moneys worth (understandably). Given that trainers are not fairly paid for their efforts this leaves the team overall exhausted and demotivated. 
- unclear where the money from extremely high prices is going, given most studios are run down and trainers/studio managers underpaid 

Overall this company has the potential to be great - it has a great training academy, studios in great locations with  mostly lovely clients, and a wonderful FOH/physio/trainer team.
Unfortunately there is an extremely high turnover of staff due to the lack of concrete career progression, being financially undervalued and physically overworked. Demands of management and clients are extremely high considering low reward and respect given to trainers. 

Working at TEN was a fair experience, 

There is a good work team to work amongst and many faces you'll be happy to see each day. Close to no diversity within working teams across the whole company. The workload is manageable however management tend to favour some over others and the workload is rarely fairly shared between employees meaning one of the team tends to be doing way more than they should be. 

The company did not have an active HR department or any support for employees, most benefits they say you are entitled to I wasn't able to get for one reason or another. 

It is pretty much impossible to have a lunch break and you'll need to bring a packed lunch a long with you to make sure you get your desired break. There is no system for receptionists having cover whilst they go to lunch so if another member of staff is too busy to cover you or simply doesn't want too, you cannot go for lunch, if you complain about this you will be told it is normal and part of the job role. Some staff in other branches advice you to just go for your lunch regardless however this isn't possible in the Liverpool street branch because of the door system (a receptionist is needed to buzz clients in)

They have a record of cutting of payments and messing about with employees when they are on their last month/leaving. I met 3 employees during my time there who had a very bad experience when leaving. I wouldn't advise this workplace however if you need a job in the city until you find something more welcoming this will do.

Overall to enjoy your experience at this workplace you really have to try your best to fit in, I wouldn't advise this workplace for ethnic minorities as they have much work to do in terms of diversity and fair treatment for all ethnicity's.

During interview and when starting at Ten it all feels exciting and structured. Once you start teaching Pilates classes (which you will, this is not a choice), you get thrown into teaching 20+ classes a week in order to earn your minimum salary. Any further 1:1 sessions you do from this is when you can start making money. 

This company honestly expects the absolute maximum from you. They constantly ask you to cover shifts at different studios and make you feel guilty as anything if you say no. You are expected to work longer hours to actually earn any respect here for a terrible wage. The company is very clickey and you can work your absolute hardest and never get any recognition. There is no work life balance and any bonuses you are entitled to, don't expect to see. 

Management is really poor and have had no previous training. If you are a Physiotherapist you get the luxury of doing what you are actually trained to do. If you are anyone else, expect to do things outside your scope of practice or training. It is a very disjointed company that has a high turnover of staff for a good reason. 

For anyone who chooses to work here, my warning would be to make sure you read every contract carefully and ask questions. You will be signing your life to work with this company for two years before knowing what you get yourself into.

-Management expects the absolute maximum from you without much to offer in return. Make you feel guilty and ignore you if they don't feel you are good enough or not happy to work overtime

-High turnover of staff. They make a nice effort to recruit and train you but once this's done, it's all about how they can take advantage of your abilities and make more money.

It's refreshing to work amongst a multidisciplinary team of professionals eager to spend time learning from each other, to ultimately make the journeys of our clients seamless as well as enjoyable. The Ten Academy is a fantastic learning opportunity for clinicians. It enables  us to utilise  a hybrid approach to client care, as well as add variety to our days by teaching or covering classes and getting to better know and truly support our clients, alongside our colleagues. Both the clinical and non-clinical team members are supportive and caring. Everybody checks in on each other and looks to help where possible.

Management teams here are supportive, care about the development of their teams within the areas of their interests as well as their performance and lead with integrity. 

I feel privileged to work here amongst an incredible people, clients and facilities. I'd highly recommend working here!

As a clinician, having access to the equipment and high quality facilities is a luxury that elevates my clients outcomes.  
The team is very supportive and everyone looks to help each other out.  I love working in a multidisciplinary team where my clients don't have to source out other experts that can help them but instead we can create a seamless treatment plan with other specialists.  This creates a fantastic learning environment 
The clients are great and often even if they end their treatment they stay within ten so you still see and support them in other services.  
I like the variety that my day consists of and being able to  control the types of services I provide and areas I work in.  The DRP training available to clinicians is a great advantage to expanding their skillset. 
The culture of the business is a great culture where everyone is there to help out their colleagues and support them.  

This company has great potenial and talks alot about how amazing their staff are but yet they treat their staff really poorly. The shifts are long with minimal or zero breaks. Staff are expected to constantly hit targets for class numbers and PT clients meaning most trainers come in outside of contracted hours to try and make up their numbers (this doesnt count as overtime) and are made to feel as if you arent working hard enough if classes aren't full.
The pay is one of the lowest in the Pilates sector for employeed staff. Middle management is really hit and miss, some are lovely but some are really jaded and pretty much just view the trainers and reception staff as jobsbodies. They have a really high turn over of staff, retention especially among trainers is very low and they dont seem to want to address it.

Working for Ten feels like being a hamster running around on a wheel and you are never allowed to stop. Would not recommend. 

I love Ten!!

Ten is a really exciting place to work. They're growing quickly as a business and are taking their employees with them on the journey. Ten is a place you can laugh, learn, and add value. I have learnt an incredible amount in the time I have worked here.

Top management genuinely care about their employees, and nuture and develop talent - the sky is the limit for those who demonstrate ability and ambition. 

The wider team are great fun to be around, collaborative and supportive.

I would recommend working here to anyone looking for a nice place to work and to develop their careers.

They have the option to be freelance which is great for university students and balancing work with life. Unfortunately they will ask you to cover lots of shifts and will make you feel guilty if you say no. There are many studios which you may be sent to and expected to just automatically know every studio's procedures, which can be quite stressful. 
When you're on shift it is very slow-paced and relaxed, and all of the staff are absolutely lovely.
