I enjoyed working at the royal hotel very much as it allowed me to learn new skills and develop better social skills and meet new people. It allowed me to gain perspective and I was eager to learn more and improve at my job. Sometimes however, the environment was bad for your confidence levels- as a member of the team- due to other members of staff and/or members of management having short tempers and going into little ''strops''. People got into arguments often however came back together and apologised not long after- i even got into a few myself. I really enjoyed working at the Royal Hotel and even though I was not the best at my job, I was able to learn and that is where my working life started for me. If you have experience, you will no doubt enjoy the Royal Hotel very much however if you are learning, it might not be the best place to 'Learn' as experienced staff members can make this quite difficult. The Bar manager is a dream to work with.

A great place to work. 4 restaurants, 4 bars, 350 bedrooms and 300 staff. It was like one big family. I enjoyed going to work, Not only was  I being trained in Hotel Management, but it kept me from partying too much at weekends with my college friends. I worked in pretty much all departments, even laundry, where I carried out a time and motion study. I could get a phone call at 5pm to cover a shift at 6pm but I enjoyed that; plus the on call pay was higher than regular pay. I learned how to deal with staff and customers as well as how to work under extreme pressure. The most difficult part of the job was working in the kitchens as, apart from the production kitchen, they were all too small and extremely busy.The most enjoyable part of the job was parading around the Hotel in either a morning suit or a Tux when doing duty management.

An interesting and sometimes challenging place to work.I learnt how to adapt to different situations and deal with problems effectively.I found that the hotel was managed very well and help was always at hand if it was needed.I got on well with my co workers and everybody got on with their own role effectively.The hardest part of the job was trying to solve a problem when a guest did not want to accept any solution that was offered to them,however I always found a way to overcome this as best I could.The most enjoyable part of the job was to know that a guest had really enjoyed their stay and that they wanted to return again and again

It was at the bust sea side in Southend on sea, so there would always be customers coming into the bar/restaurant and the place would always be full of people. 
I was then able to learn how to handle customers at busy points during the day, and how to stay calm once pressure was put on me. 
The co-workers all would work together to be able to create a smooth as possible procedure. 
The hardest part of the job would be when there where a lot of customers flooding in and trying to be able to keep them as calm as possible. 
The most enjoyable part of the job would be working with the co-workers that I did, and the overall environment not being too stressful or overwhelming.

My typical day at work was basically just serving customers, clearing and setting tables, washing dishes, working the till, setting up for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also talking to customers and guests, telling them about Ullapool and the many things to do there.
It helped me to become a much more confident person when talking to people and also helped improve my french and spanish when talking to foreigners. However, there were hard parts of the job, for example when it got very busy and there was not enough staff working at that time, although I think that it helped me to get used to a busy working environment and that I am certainly equipped to work in one now.

The royal hotel job was okay in parts and poor in others. The pay for example was £3.77 which simply wasn’t enough to do Anything with and especially after working a 6-9 hour shift you didn’t feel like you’d got much in return. Also the staff other than a small bunch (the chefs) didn’t really communicate at all and it all seemed a bit frosty. However whenever you got in there was a clear objective for every 30 mins whether it was sorting the room out , laying tables, serving the food,  there was always something to do and you never felt bored.

I really would not recommend working in this place, management have no respect, don’t know how to speak to you or customers with respect, asked for new people and speak to them badly within the first half an hour, making them want to leave, leaving all new people who have only just started running the place while they drink, manager drinks behind the bar most nights while telling us what to do! Says a family run business but I’d say otherwise, lots do if complaints recently of customers 

Main positive aspect about working in The Royal Hotel is fellow work colleagues. Most are young and fun to work around. 
A days work includes bar work, waiter service and food running. Breakfast has to be ready from 7am for the guests staying at the hotel and lunch commences from 12pm. 
For setting up functions we have two function suites: the Ballroom and Oak room.
Bar stocking and general cleaning tasks have to be completed on a daily basis.

In time spent Royal Hotel I was able to acheive the following 


•	Ordering of stock for the following day
•	Making sure that on the head chef days of that all food preparation was complete and we were ready for service
•	Taking charge of the pass when needed
•	Preparation and service of bar meals

Treat you awful, bad pay, don’t care about staff just about making money they will make you work okay over your contract and not pay you for it! Chefs behaviour is awful they speak to people so little and nothing is done about it. One minute you will have hours piled on next minute have none. You will work Christmas Day with only time and a half, no thank you’s our given from company. Staff our always leaving.  Normally hire young staff to save you money
