Worked as Theatre assistant for 3years.The job is mind numbing and pathetic in some degree. Supposed to be team ethic in NHS, But personal who are part of same team never help you. They are either in coffee rooms or store rooms hiding on there mobile phones for hours a day. You are often left to work by yourself because of lazy attitude of work staff.Supervisor is terrible not fair or helpful when you need to book annual leave,so you could only have time off when his favourite colleagues have picked there annual leave, which is not fair if you have a family. Most of the people who work in Theatres are rude and never wrong , try talk down at you most of the time.And if you have opinion or disagreement you are alienated most of the time too.Managers are terrible, never helpful or approachable.Part of you duties for this job is to collect patients from a ward on bed , but  because most of the time you working by yourself it’s impossible to transfer patients. This job is made up of different jobs that other departments do not want to do, so they have made this job title. Nobody respects you even nurses or Theatres staff. 

The work-from-home policy at the trust is largely dependent on the type of role you are in. Clinical staff are expected to be on-site due to the nature of patient care, which limits flexibility significantly. For non-clinical roles, there is some opportunity for hybrid working, but this is not guaranteed and often depends on team needs and managerial approval. In many cases, employees may be allowed to work from home occasionally rather than on a regular basis. While the organisation shows some willingness to support flexible working, operational demands usually take priority, which can make consistent remote working difficult. Overall, the policy offers limited flexibility compared to other sectors, but it is understandable given the healthcare setting. Improvements could be made by providing clearer guidelines and more consistent access to hybrid arrangements for eligible roles, helping to support work-life balance while still maintaining high standards of service delivery.

 Most departments are generally warm and welcoming. Trainings are good and if you are struggling with your role or skills, appropriate support is always given. Since this is a major trauma hospital, a lot of subspecialties are under one roof, so one always has the option to apply to other departments laterally or move up a senior role. However, it can be observed that a number of individuals are given managerial or senior position but are not qualified it. Many applicants are told, “You don’t have to know what the Band 5s do exactly if you’re in a managerial role.” This is not the case. If you are a team leader, or even a senior, you need to be able to empathise with your staff, and assist them in solving their queries, creating a supportive environment. Many departments now question how individuals who lock themselves in offices, unable to understand basic clinical terms and how the services are delivered, are hired for such positions. 

Made to feel incredibly small. Thrown in at the deep end then pulled in to meetings to be ripped apart. Majority of the staff only thought about themselves. Very clicky work place. No support regarding mental health regardless if staff or patient related. Patients left without updates. Certain staff not completing jobs but not being reprimanded for it. Manager has no time for time. Staff have no time to teach new workers on ward. Not enough equipment, not enough relevant training just blanket training to cover entire trust. I was really excited to work here and hoped to progress my career to being a nurse but working at this place has now taken me out of care completely to the point I no longer want to work in the industry which is a shame because the patients I did support were always really happy. 

Day after day I do the work a band 2 could do, i have not worked 7 years to write on bits of paper and check items that senior medics keep messing up. I worked hard for my degree and i have yet to meet anyone here that does any scientific work.

Culture of work is terrible with expectation of working 50 hours a week for the price of 37.5. When you do extra for free, you receive no thanks. You are deemed honoured to be working at a lab that is day after day relegating BMS's to menial work roles.

Taking on extra responsibilities gets you a big kick in the teeth, while being chased to do those jobs and given no time to do them.

Working at UHS is incredibly welcoming and friendly place to work - everyone is very welcoming, and management within my department are very proactive, caring, and quick to support you when necessary. One downside, and a major one, is the workload. In my role, I have been responsible for multiple projects as one time - more as a project manager than an officer. The work I do is equivalent to multiple full-time equivalents, all for a relatively low banding. This is not the fault of UHS, the pay rates are set by the UK Government, but it can be a bit demoralising upon reflection. 

Strongly recommend UHS as a place to work, but whilst the NHS is in the midst of a staffing crisis, it can make it very difficult

Nursing is hard at best of times, but with no regular shift patterns and nights into days, expensive car parking, poor management and lack leadership uhs is forcing me out of a career I used to love. Favouritism and lack of flexibility mean others pick up the slack. Shift changes last minute and no care for staff. as long as you turn up it doesn’t matter if you care. Very poor culture set from the top that means the rot is set in. Very poor career progression and standards are shocking. Only had 1 full weekend off in 3 months. 

The environment is very busy with pressures from within the department, and from other departments, to meet the demand on the service when there is no capacity to do so.

You need to be resilient. Sometimes management can be supportive, however a lot of the time staff are just expected to put up with it, pressured into overtime or forced into working at least 2 weekends per month. The shift patterns are a bit erratic and, although supposed to be on a rolling pattern are not and generally are released about a month in advance.

The work is varied, which is nice, but that doesn't make up for the added stress from the size of the department.

I have worked for the UHS on and off for 15 years and I have loved the various roles I have had.  The best thing about working in the UHS is the variety of positions and the options that are available.  All managers are supportive of the need for career progression and there is a lot of support out there to find the position that works best for you. The Hospital is a caring and innovative hospital with so much research and learning opportunities. 

There are also staff benefits from 50% off Pizza to money off of Holidays.  A wonderful chaplaincy team that supports all faiths a counselling service and so much more.

it is nice to handle just a bay of patients and there's a phlebotomist to take bloods and insert cannula but in my workplace the management will supervise you so intently that if you made a mistake they would make you do tons of reflections and get feedback from your colleagues for several months even if you do everything, it is still not enough for them and you will end up stressed on body and mind then lose your confidence to do your job like you are a new nurse even if i am doing this job for 10 yrs.
