Typical day. Arrive at work in the morning to find faults that have occurred overnight. Being pulled from pillow to post dealing with other issues and requests while at the same time trying to maintain the upkeep of the premises and it's equipment.
What I believe I've learned. I've learned that you shouldn't believe what you're told at the job interview. I was given a completely faulse impression of company values.
The actual home's manager for the time I've known him seems to be doing his job to his best abilities, I'd have to know him better. But senior management, although they have been supported at most times, they're biggest concerns over are you is all the e-learning you have to do, rather than letting you make sure that the residents have a warm and respectable environment to live in at all times.
Workplace culture. All the staff on the whole are good people and hard working, there's one or two bad eggs as there are in any care home, but mostly they all work together rather than against each other.
The hardest part of the job is, not being able to complete any type of task without interruption. You often​ forget some jobs completely or miss things out when you're being pulled away all the time to deal with less important issues.
The most enjoyable part of the job is that most of the staff have a great sense of humour, it is a quality I've always valued​ in those I work with. It is important to have that type of harmony in any workplace, and even more so in a care home, it can be a very depressing environment to be in without laughter.
The residents to are lovely interesting people, and are always smiling and always greatful for any little thing you do for them.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The main issue at this company is severe understaffing and excessive workload. Too few staff are expected to care for too many residents, which creates constant pressure and makes it difficult to provide the level of care residents deserve. Management does not take enough action to recruit or maintain adequate staffing levels, which leads to ongoing stress and poor working conditions. Support from management is limited, and overall organisation is weak. This creates a negative working environment for staff and impacts the quality of care. I would not recommend this workplace unless there are significant improvements in staffing and management

The most stressful part is the severe understaffing, where too few staff are expected to care for too many residents. This creates constant pressure, heavy workload, and makes it difficult to maintain quality care

The work environment is very stressful due to understaffing and high workload. The culture lacks support from management, and communication is often poor. This creates pressure for staff and affects teamwork and moraleI

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day starts early, usually around 7:30am, and immediately becomes very busy. Due to understaffing, there is a constant flow of tasks with little or no time to pause. As soon as one task is completed, another follows, making it difficult to keep up. The workload is very high, and there is continuous pressure throughout the shift, which makes the day physically and mentally exhausting

What is the best part of working at the company?
Considering am sat here for sometime thinking of anything good to write about the company, came difficult since I have it given one star. That for new employee's it is fine however, the loner you are working for them you will find there problems with staff towards each other, as well some management due  the high press put on them from head office.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The extra pressers put on you from all kind of different tasks which is added onto you, more so with care assistant and there is not much understanding from certain members such as seniors, managers when any other member as said something it always seems one sided.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There is mixed culture there which is not to bad at times however, they will only talk in there own language which can make you feel uncomfortable if only speak English while you are, that can last all day which is 12 hours if you do care, the residents can not understand and the make comments which is ignored with some of them.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Some days can work well however, some seniors want you to do everything as they would work which can be good at times. Sadly, it takes you confidence away because your independence is taken away due to all different task which needed with getting residents washed, dressed in the morning right up assisting with personal needs throughout the day.

Not recommended, all of the staff feel insecure in their jobs due to the constant bombardment of young, middle managers from head office; most of whom don't have a clue and think management skill is the same as bullying attitude.  

The company strap line is 'our family caring for yours' but in reality the only thing that matters to the owners is profit.

All of the staff at The Grove are great to work with and the Home is very fortunate to have such caring staff.  The new manager who came in about 6 months ago has really made a difference to the place and has boosted staff moral brilliantly.  Sadly, our 4th manager in the 3 years since Country Court Care took over, is now leaving.  No doubt due to the way in which head office treat their managers.  Not sure why, as the improvements she has made so far have been massive and the way she is with staff, means that staff are prepared to go the extra mile for her.   Short sightedness by head office, seeing of that many managers.


Working with the residents is great and the home is a lovely environment to work in.  It is hard work though, the home is pretty well occupied in comparison to others that I have worked in, with most rooms being occupied most of the time.  And the home constantly runs short staffed.  So expect to be rushed off your feet. 

That said, care is care and it is not the worst home that I have worked in.  If it wasn't for the attitude of the middle managers, in particular the 'front of house manager' it could be the best.

A Compassionate Haven in Peterborough

I recently joined as a HCA in Castor Lodge, a care home nestled in the country side of Peterborough and owned by Country Court. My overall impression of this facility is one of warmth and compassion.

The staff at Castor Lodge exemplifies dedication to the well-being of residents. From my observations, the caregivers displayed a genuine commitment to providing personalized care, fostering a sense of community, and ensuring the comfort of every resident.

The living spaces are thoughtfully designed, creating a homely atmosphere that promotes a sense of independence while also offering the necessary support for those who require it. The attention to detail in maintaining a clean and inviting environment did not go unnoticed.

The activities and programs at Castor Lodge are tailored to engage residents and enhance their quality of life. Whether it's group activities, entertainment, or individual pursuits, there seems to be a genuine effort to cater to a variety of interests.
In conclusion, Castor Lodge Care Home is a commendable choice for those seeking a caring and supportive environment for their loved ones in Peterborough. The combination of dedicated staff, thoughtfully designed spaces, engaging activities, and the backing of Country Court ownership contributes to a positive living experience for residents.

I enjoyed my nursing career and was very happy at Abbey Grange for 5 years, however owing to the nature of the job and other pressures I was unable to continue in the role and am now seeking an admin based role. 
I learned a lot of admin skills as a Nursing Home nurse, including email, computer and paper based record keeping, and the importance of data protection, confidentiality, equality and diversity and accuracy.
There were some management changes during my time at the Home but I always had a good .professional relationship with the managers.
Nursing is a high pressure job and involves supervision of others and liaison with relatives and other professionals, the work ethic was always to provide a happy and caring environment for our clients and to support staff with personal development.
I found the hardest part of the job to be fitting essential tasks into the available time due to the varied nature of the tasks.
I particularly enjoyed care planning for individual clients and ensuring the records were kept up to date and the use of my communication skills in a wide range of situations.

Ive worked for the company almost 7 years .
Its a busy kitchen due to shortages of staff ,ive tried to use my talents,the problem in the kitchen  is you can not cook and wash up at the same time.
One part of the jobis checking up on the units kitchenettes as they dont have enough front of house staff to do the job and food not being labelled ,fruit juices and biscuits taken to staff room, care staff eating residents meals,

Hardest part is having to clear up stores after people taking stock for units and leaving empty boxes in the stores ,people opening 2 or three cases of fruit juices at one time.
Storeage room not big enough as home was increased from 45 residence to almost 75 residence.
Only to people on duty in the kitchen at one time having to prepare and cook wash up and to keep the kitchen tidy.
Activites wanting to organise events without reconishing sheets.
Not knowing how many people are at the event.
Most enjoyable is showing people that I can cook and trying to explain to people only take what is required on the menu for that day.

Interview process was a con! They stated front of house staff took care of serving residents meals and cleaning up, not true at all, carers end up doing 90% of it. New staff are not welcomed, not a friendly atmosphere to work in. Training is OK although not 1 staff member followed moving and handling procedures. Understaffed, overworked and underpaid! Like any other care home. Management care more about gossip, coffee and takeaways. You have unpaid breaks and have to pay for hot drinks whilst office staff get them for free! Certain staff members are favoured over others for weekends off! They get donations for comfort fund yet it seems residents are often without basics, for example shower gel! It's always the same resdients going on outtings and many others overlooked, therefore feeling frustrated. Unfortunately the only winners in this company are the owners and management/ office staff. 

I worked at the Lostock home and was bullied by multiple staff (it’s still going on with others). I was treated unfairly, always made to work alone, I was always being belittled, always working with smokers who spend their time in the garden whilst you do everything alone with 18 residents who are constantly buzzing. Lovely residents though, very friendly and polite but staff and management are terrible. I had a several issues which I raised with the manager but they never got sorted. New managers every month, I was bullied and threatened by one manager which put the nail in the coffin. I left. Haven’t looked back! Only downside is the money was alright, id make around £1000 a month maybe more but I know there are much nicer and better managed care homes with better rates of pay. They also have a lot of family there which means AT CHRISTMAS YOU CANT HAVE TIME OFF WITH CHILDREN.

The moment I walked through the door for my interview to starting work I have felt welcomed and supported.  Days are busy but there is never no one who won’t help!  Management I find so supportive and will help with anything from sending an email to helping with personal and continence care for a resident.  The managers are always on the floor chatting to residents and implementing little touches to make each one feel valued and well looked after, nothing is ever too much trouble and that goes to supporting both residents and staff.  All of the residents have their wishes be it food, personal care, drinks all honoured and the chefs take great pride in what they give each resident making it individualised, they are always wanting feedback from the residents and come and just sit and chat with them.  Overall this is a lovely place to work and you are supported to work to your full potential.
