Let's get the pros out of the way first - it was an amazing experience to be able to form great working relationships with the Service User's at the various services I worked at during my time as an employee of Accomplish, and to know that I personally had a positive impact on their lives. I also really enjoyed the company of some of my colleagues whilst in this role.

However.. Accomplish has a LOT of problems, and pretty much all of them can be traced back to their management, or lack of. One of the services I worked at went through 6/7 different managers in a year as none of them could hack it for longer than a month or two. Service was left to run by the team leader who subsequently got promoted to Deputy Manager despite the fact they were under-qualified, untrained and unsuitable for the job role with a completely unprofessional attitude. Didn't bother with staff supervisions, other managerial obligations or checking in on how the team were, didn't know the service users well, hardly ever answered emails, responded to texts or picked up the phone when you are trying to contact with questions or requests for support or advice, which in this line of work can often be urgent. Always in late, often left early, sometimes didn't even show up at all. Absolutely no chance of them working a weekend or beyond 17:00 on a weekday or covering a support shift themselves, even when the service was completely down on staff or experiencing a crisis. Meanwhile support workers were put down for illegal shift lengths, (24 hours of awake work happened to me and others on occasion, 36 - 48 + hours of continuous work on site was common). Also you can forget about having that relaxing day off for the first time in a week because you'll get 20 phone calls from different members of the on-call team asking you to cover shifts last minute.  

Decisions for the services are rarely made in service users best interests and on more than one occasion in my time working for them, poor managerial decisions made for the wrong reasons and an unwillingness to listen to the advise / concerns of Support Workers (the people who, you know, spend 14 hours a day guiding service users through their lives) regarding the welfare and best interests of service users resulted in a company culture of neglect and what can only be described as institutional abuse, that did nothing to serve the mental deterioration of some vulnerable service users who were receiving sub-par support, and eventually had to be relocated to other care providers as the company could no longer care for them.

The company basically operates in continuous crisis management mode, although they don't realise the severity of their respective crises. Service users are brought in to fill rooms in Services which don't have enough staff to cover their current residents, Accomplish then hastily employ inexperienced Support Workers based on their availability to work rather than their suitability for the job, stick them on a relentless rota without any support or sufficient training and leave them to it. The staff feel undervalued, morale is non-existent and so inadequate care is provided. Incidents then happen, staff get blamed and leave, company brings in more service users, hasn't got enough staff, etc etc.

And you won't get anything in terms of benefits or whatever for working such a demanding job. Overtime is standard rate, I could count on one hand the amount of times I was thanked by management for going above and beyond for the Service Users. I think you get a paid day off once every ten years if you've never called in sick. :)

My greatest experience at my current workplace is that I am operating outside my profession and it is really fun and exciting to learn new things everyday, new terminology, new practices and views from new perspectives. It was a challenge in the beginning because there was so much to learn in a very short space of time. I was like a baby learning how to crawl and I enjoyed the challenge everyday and looked up to new challenges everyday I wake up. It is amazing how I have grasped so much and I have fitted so well and become not only a part of the establishment but a great force to reckon with and the most trusted generals at within my department. It was so funny because I had just moved in the United Kingdom from Africa so everything was just new. The power of positive thing is great. Anything that a mind conceives and believe a mind can achieve. The work culture was very different and I was able to quickly learn and fit myself so well, different work practices and it was my first time to work on a shift basis. Despite that the management culture is more top-down cascading of instructions and very little bottom-up interaction I managed to establish effective communication with the management and I found out that general workers refrain from making decisions as a result they had decisions made for them.  There is a chasm between low level workers, middle management and upper management. Fear hold the lower level from establishing effective and efficient communication between different levels. The organogram is hierarchical and and management get very little managerial input from the base. The lack of intranet accessible to very worker result into information asymmetry within the department. In the unit there is a single computer which is used communally that is dominated by the seniors who use that opportunity to book all extra shifts for themselves and giving very little chances for the junior staff. The training are very good and the work exposure. It is one company I have seen practicing duty rotation  and they have very supportive recruitment team. However the induction was terrible and the supervision during probation was very poor. One had to discover things on your own and you have to keep on asking to the point that I felt as If I am nagging. However some members of staff were very cooperative save those that were arrogant and unwilling to help. You cannot judge the race by the worst man, there are people like that in many companies. I attribute that to lack of internal controls, check and balance systems or even lack of proper feedback systems. However after having an opportunity we helped each other together with those that were initially not cooperative to build strong a team and together we are all winning.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Clients, clients, clients. Some adorable clients, but the company itself lacks transparency, integrity and professionalism.  The clients were the only reason I reapplied to go back when I was thinking of returning to Liverpool and did not even receive an acknowledgement of my application.

Maybe I was too much trouble for them, maybe my social work background was a threat. I made a couple of complaints about the practices of others and felt that nothing was followed through on  from  the management in Merseyside.   I wasn’t even spoken to by the management for further information…..it was all ignored.

I have since been doing the same work for another company and I can’t actually believe the difference in the degree of professionalism from this other company.

Accomplish anything……I don’t think so.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The lack of communication, honesty, transparency from management to staff. I rarely heard anything from those doing the actual support work that they felt supported by management.  Any observations, suggestions felt like they disappeared into a black hole never to be mentioned again.

Lip service is paid whilst going through the recruitment phase but after that you are just left and completely ignored . Professional and ongoing training is non existent. People still with unfinished care certificates years after they started….I had completed mine with new company within 3 months.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not great at all, staff do not feel valued by management so many of them just pay lip service to their work and clients. 

The culture is hard and closed and not transparent . 

I mistakenly reapplied when I thought I was returning to Liverpool mainly because of how fond I was of certain clients. They have ignored my application at every level even my last supervisor whom I know had a respect for my work has completely blanked me.  They clearly don’t like my face and that is just fine.

I am now so grateful for all this.

I have never left such a strongly worded review about anything……it’s not in my nature…..but the opportunity to leave one came  up on my screen…..and here I am.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Just doing the very best I could with a very good heart and fully focused on trying to improve clients lives in whatever way possible.

I really enjoyed my time there. I made good friends and got a sense of fulfilment from it. A typical day would be arriving on shift making yourself a cuppa whilst saying good morning to the people we support. We have a hand over that lasts between 10 to 20 minutes discussing the days' plan, things that need doing and allocation of jobs, whether kitchen checks, water temp, car checks, e.t.c. Then the rest of the day is helping people get the most out of life. 
You will receive full paid training manual handling, COSHH, health and safety, first aid, a 3-day course in dealing with difficult behaviour among lots more. You will have to work towards you NVQ2 aswell. There are always opportunities to advance if you are committed and have a good sickness record (Bradford scoring is used).
Management was great always happy to listen and help as well as the deputies.
The culture was friendly although staff will get on better with other staff more which is typical, I felt it never really affected my work.
The hardest part of the job is first, shift patterns as you might end up having to do a nightshift here and there to cover sickness or annual leave, this doesn't really start until they believe you are competent. Lastly, you really do have to have is patience. I have worked in care (elderly/EMI) for 18 years though I developed a new type of patients in mental health. It doesn't take too long to develop and even then at times you might be pushed to your limit there are always staff and management to talk to later know as a debrief. This helps get your frustrations out of the way so you can continue your shift without any issues and the best reason is once you debrief, you have taken that weight off yourself and you don't have to take it back to your home life. The best part of my job was mainly everything from seeing the people we support in the morning through to seeing them go to bed at night.
It is very unfortunate that I decided to leave for personal reasons and that when the time comes I would run back there in a heartbeat.

Finally, if you are looking for a job in care make sure you are a caring person, who appreciates human life and the struggle that people with mental health go through. To be a great support worker you must forget you are a worker that is only for the company and management to know. The people we support we are their lifelines to the world and you will be seeing them as much as your own family or sometimes more.

Typical day -  staff and senior management being negative towards staff and clients.  Staff on mobile phones and gossiping.  Staff draining expenses funds to enjoy themselves (eating out frequently).  Inadequate choice and selection of food/meals for clients, whatever the staff wish to eat will be the choice clients eat.

Learned - training provided but of little benefit as different procedure from home to home. learned that young staff do little, fabricate and make FAKE stories up to look favourable to managers/nepotism. 

Management - negative and outwardly stressed, putting staff down in front of other staff and gossiping.  Not reading client history and reporting staff when 24 hour cooling down/thinking time should have been given. Not protecting staff from potential harm when sharps go missing.  Constantly on mobile phones and preparing rota to benefit themselves firstly and then their favourites. 

Workplace culture - immature young staff with no care/support knowledge, back stabbing, staff accepting and keeping gifts from clients with management not doing anything as the staff are part of the 'click' .  Management friends with staff on Facebook when policy states not to. 

Hardest part of day - listening to negative staff putting clients down.  Management not allow clients to undertake activities due to lack of funds. Management not addressing concerns  and ridicule client which escalates further Mental Health issues.

Enjoyable part of day - interaction with the clients.

Overview -Manager’s choose who to like and who not to like and have favourites/nepotism. They don't look after staff and happy staff are pivotal to look after vulnerable people correctly. Bullying and unfair criticism of non-favourites when the favourites do less work. They need to choose the right people to deal with staff. You cannot have certain people in charge, looking miserable and SUPER stressed the whole shift, giving you dirty looks and picking up on silly things.  Wages constantly incorrect and rota constantly changed and always blamed for not cleaning during night shifts. 

Everything else VERY poor. A typical day would most definitely result in some form of incident (detrimental to other clients) that management provided very little support.  One of the worst jobs, very tense atmosphere, unhappy fake staff.

If you want to work for a company whose actions attitude and behaviour completely contradict their values in every way then this is the place for you . The Company wasn’t perfect before but I loved my time there for many years and it  most definitely had a lot going for it in terms of culture , commitment and passion from the great teams across all levels , in homes and head office and the management teams. It was a happy place to work. Tough times sometimes but we got though it together. The way the new senior management team from the new CEO , Managing Directors, and sadly now  the Regional managers-  value and treat people now under the new regime  is shocking, they have no appreciation of experience , knowledge, commitment or passion. They feel they know best and no one has anything to offer them and the only focus is getting ready for sale . All the senior Directors and the majority of senior staff and head office and support teams who really cared or who dared to speak out  have now left or were moved on . They don’t want anyone who will challenge them   ,only yes people, and the attitude which is openly said to people is if you don’t like it - go - there is a draconian management approach in place from the CEO down in such contrast to how things were before . Feeling valued is a thing of the past unless you are one of the chosen few ( in the clique) 
Ignore the tokenistic corporate company response to this post  which will say we want to know how you feel - it’s not true , lots of people have spoken up and are now gone - and those left are too afraid to speak out and are just biding their time until there might be new owners or they find a new job . You have to wonder if so little time is given to listening and supporting staff to ensure investment in people takes place to make things better in a so called care provider how much care is actially given to the service users . 
It is amazing the investors can't see what's been happening over the last couple of years ??  And are not scrutinising the turnover! It is very sad to see the beating heart (the values and culture) ripped out of an organisation until there is nothing left, and sad that none if that will bother the CEO, Chairman or investors as long as they get a good return !



When applied for a job at Brookdale, I received a call very quickly and I was booked in for an interview for the following day, although I didn't fully understand the full details of the job, they just told me to come in. They seemed really keen to get me in for an interview and I was pleased because I had no experience in care. 

When I arrived for my interview, I was taken outside to a porta cabin. Unfortunately I had to squeeze past some old rusty fire extinguishers and big rubbish bins, (which were really smelly) just to get inside. The porta cabin was also very damp and not nice to sit in. There were also lots of flies in there, probably attracted by the bins. I was told all the other rooms were booked. 

While I was having my interview, lots of people arrived outside of the porta cabin and started smoking, shouting and laughing. They were very loud and I could smell the smoke. Apparently that was the smoking area, but there was a window which looked straight in to where I was sitting.  It was very unprofessional and felt really awkward.

Anyway, despite me feeling the interview hadn't gone very well, and the fact I had no experience, they offered me a job, right there and then at their hospital called Milton Park. I couldn't believe it. I was then escorted to another room to complete my DBS straight away. Everything seemed a rush, and desperate to get me to complete the forms. Someone in the office told me they need lots of staff. At that point it seemed all I had to do was turn up for the interview and I would have got the job.

I started a few weeks later. 2 weeks of training. It was so busy, about 20 others crammed into a room. I was told they do this every week, as they are so desperate for staff. They didn't treat anyone as a individual. When talking one of the other people training with me, they said they are interviewing 50 people a week because they have no staff. I was shocked and this worried me. I became really anxious about what type of company I had joined. It didn't feel like a secure job. As the week went on, I heard more and more stories about Milton Park. My gut feeling was not to go back, and I didn't go back the following week and found another job.

This seemed like a dream job at the beginning but soon went downhill. The training and induction is all brilliant and can't be faulted. The same cannot be said for the management, and subsequently the staff that they manage. 
Things are done very unprofessionally at times, staff are spoken down to and made to feel worthless, hard work is not praised but mistakes are always pulled up on.
Care plans are not followed as they should be. Managers do not act quick enough when there is a decline of mental health and an increase of dangerous behaviour. 
Staff are not listened to, put alone on night shifts (11.5hr) despite them stating it makes them uncomfortable to be alone on a shift to look after 6/7 clients. 
You get monthly rotas but there is no point looking at more than the current week as shifts change constantly, you cannot make plans as you are basically on call due to these rota changes.
A very bad job to work also if you have children as they won't take that into consideration when putting you in for night shifts or late finishes. The management will bend the rules for some but not others - they will not put you in for three consecutive shifts if you ask for it but have no issue putting you in for five consecutive shifts as overtime, without consulting you. 
Very negative work culture you have the feeling of walking on eggshells when management are in but days when it is just support staff and shift leaders are very different, residents and staff all seem happier. Saying this - the individuals living in the home and other homes in town are brilliant and a joy to work with, all unique and brilliant people who made work bearable for me. It is a shame for them that the staff turnover is at an all time high, as the deserve so much more than that. 
It is a shame that there aren't more positive comments about accomplish on this site that aren't just from the managers themselves - perhaps if staff were looked after better the managers wouldn't have to write false reviews online.

Management is a joke, there is a clique. So much complacency, favouritism, lack of key values. Terrible communication. Unreasonable expectations from management. Terrible rota situation, changes every 2 mins and often not shared with all staff even if they are off for a few days. The management team and some of the staff team honestly expect you to run around making them cuppas all day. Some staff don’t to anything at all apart from sit next to service users on their phone. Management are always on their phone and often it’s not work related. Management are more than happy to berate staff publicly for the slightest mistake but aren’t willing to accept that they make mistakes and are out of line. Management are not approachable at all and then try to tell you off if you go to the individual in a role above them. Management and staff discuss other staff and service users in front of the service users in an unprofessional way and when talking about staff it is often in a derogatory way ( especially if they have a difference of opinion or have raised a concern). The place is a joke with no clear set expectations or routines. They rush you to update documents in care plans last minute.they rush you through training and don’t pay attention when completing observations of new staff dispensing medication.  Any issues are mostly missed by the management team as they don’t want to deal with it. Most of the staff do not know how to complete basic paperwork despite working there for years. Management look down on people in positions below theirs. The overall environment created by management and some staff has been detrimental to some previous and current staff’s mental health. Management become extremely unhappy if disagreed with and try to push staff out for pointing out discrepancies and double standards. This is why there is such a high staff turnover.  Wouldn’t bother, if you have mental health they will make it worse and if you don’t you will develop it from being in that environment.  I could go on forever about the issues at Cildewi House and it just comes from the head down. Talk about lead by example but then set a really bad example to new staff

The management are very unprofessional and unorganised. The majority do NOT care about their staff wellbeing in anyway. Rotas are always wrong and you’re availability is never listened to. Any emails you send to the management never get a response. If you’re unavailable to work a certain shift, they give you attitude over the phone and will try pressure you into doing it. 

When you think of management you’d expect professionalism, intellects, good people skills, great communication and the obvious MANAGEMENT SKILLS. These people have anything but. They’re simply a pack of wolves who sit in the office moaning about their staff, complaining when they have more work to do and come across as extremely brainless. 

You’re not allowed to contact your managers out of office hours or at the weekend. If you did, they may get funny with you or completely ignore your calls, emails or texts. However, as soon as they need something from you they will ring your phone non stop, even on your days off. 

Payment each month is always wrong and most staff are left underpaid. (Good luck trying to get any owed money back). 

The employee morale is at an all time low. This company offer no staff benefits, no pay rises and no employee recognition whatsoever. They offer a 16 hour contract or a 35 hour contract, however you could be working up to or more than 50-60+ hours a week. You will be working all these hours, making managers job easier yet you won’t get so much as a “thank you” or a “you’re doing a good job”.

If you join this company here’s some advice; 
•You must know how to say NO as the management will bully and pressure you into doing unwanted shifts. 
•Never speak over the phone to your manager, always try to email as then there is written evidence on what has been said. Managers tend to lie and say they said this and that over the phone even though they didn’t. 
•You must be able to handle stress because this job will put you in immense stress. 
•Stand up for yourself and fight for your weekends off and breaks in between long shifts.
