About us

Our HR & OD service works across the council to support our people, our managers and our services. We help the organisation develop the skills, confidence, culture and ways of working needed to deliver good outcomes for Salford residents.

About the Role

We are looking for an OD Consultant to join our HR & OD team at an important time for Salford City Council.

You will support a range of change projects and organisational development activity across the council, helping our people, managers and services understand, shape and feel confident through change.

Working alongside colleagues from across HR & OD and the wider organisation, you will help turn change plans into practical activity. This could include colleague engagement, workshops, learning and development, guidance and support with new systems, processes or ways of working.

You will take time to understand how change affects different people and services, identify what colleagues need and help build the confidence and skills needed to make transformation work in practice.

The projects you support will vary and may involve organisational change, service improvement, culture, leadership, workforce development, technology or different ways of working. Whatever the project, you will help us keep people at the heart of how change is designed and delivered.

The focus of this role

The role will offer opportunities to contribute to a varied programme of work. Initially, this could include:

Supporting the development and embedding of new ways of working in Adult Social Care
Designing and facilitating engaging learning for managers at all levels, alongside new starter and management induction activities
Developing and coordinating our employee volunteering programme, strengthening community connections and demonstrating the social value we create as an employer.

As priorities develop, you will also have opportunities to support other change and organisational development projects across the council.

What we are looking for

This is a role for someone who has experience of supporting people through change and can turn complex information into clear, accessible and practical support.

We are looking for someone who enjoys bringing ideas to life. You may have experience of designing and delivering workshops, learning activities, communications, guidance or other support that helps people understand and engage with change.

A strong organiser, you will be comfortable developing practical plans, managing different priorities and adapting your approach as projects and needs evolve. You will be confident working independently within agreed priorities, taking responsibility for agreed actions and outputs and keeping others updated on progress. You will use your initiative to explore ideas and work with colleagues to find practical solutions, identifying and escalating risks, barriers or dependencies when needed.

You do not need to be a technical specialist, but strong digital skills and an interest in how technology can support people and services would be a real advantage.

This role would suit someone who is collaborative, practical and curious, and who enjoys building positive relationships and working with others to make change happen.
